Pathmaster: Maintain strong knowledge of traveling around Inferni (the easiest/best way to get somewhere; secret routes, etc.). Maintain any paths through Inferni: e.g., the most often traveled ways between the Grimwell, Mansion, and Caves.; He is in Lupus form; 322 Words

Cartier had lived in Inferni his whole life and so he was used to the paths that were used to get around Inferni. Some of the most used pathways weren't always the most direct pathways. It was for this reason that he was out and about. There had been an influx of new bodies in Inferni and it was his desire to help them get around. He wasn't able to handle them all individually as he really wished to do since he already kept a pretty full schedule. He decided to mark these paths for others to end up knowing about. He figured that if he wasn't able to take them on the tour of Inferni himself then he could at least find a way to make them known about.

The young male had started at the borders and marked out the quickest route to the mansion. He made the scent trail as strong as he could. He rubbed up against things and urinated where there were only long stretches of open land. He was trying to make the trails clear as possible. He had already met one new coyote and had shown her around. This was for all the other ones who have, and have yet, to come so that they wouldn't get lost.

Perhaps even some of the older ones could make use of the trails he was creating as well. They had expanded and he didn't know if everyone had already explored the new areas or not. If they hadn't then this could easily help them out as well. Cartier had met it his business to learn every part of Inferni. This was his home and he wanted to know all of it. He felt that it was his duty to know all of it. Of course he was still learning all of the details of the new areas himself but he at least knew where everything was at for now.

Kasia was...lost. Not literally, she knew that she was near the bordes, but her destination was still nowhere to be seen. She tried to follow any trace that would indicate the nearby presente of Inferni's crows, but she was still clieless as to where it was. She had heard about them many times before, and had seen a few in the company of their owners, but the main flock dwelled on its own place. Unfortunately, she still didn't know the whole extension of Inferni's lands.

After another attempt, she was a little bit tired. Maybe she could try again tomorrow, this time with another infernian to guide her.

Mariama grunted under her as she pulled the reins in another direction. The movement startled a small purple bundle sat behind the coyote, and a small blonde head emmerged from inside the fabric. A sharp yelp called the brunette's attention, who immediately tries to reassure her partner. Yari was still weak, but he still wanted to explore and go out. She just hoped that they would find the flock soon.

A faint, familiar smell interrupted her thoughts. Somebody had been marking a router, probable one leading back to the mansion. She inhaled a little bit deeper and managed to distinguish Cartier's smell. Maybe he could help her. So, with another swift movement, she followed the trail left by him.

Cartier really hoped that this tactic of his would work out. He really hoped that it would make things easier. Of course the scent trail would have to refreshed every so often. But still, Cartier figured that would be better than to have other clan members wandering around lost. Perhaps even some of them of the other members would think to help strengthen the scents once they started to fade so that there would always be a direct trail leading from one area to the next.

Of course Cartier would always go back and remark the trails himself. There was no way that he could ask others to do it though he wouldn't mind if other took the initiative to do so themselves. Actually Cartier would be thankful for it as it would end up being one task of right many that he would be able to mark off his list. But any that knew Cartier knew that he would fill that empty slot with at least two or three more tasks to take on and complete. He simply couldn't help himself. He loved Inferni and would do anything at all to help out his home.

The sound of hoofbeats had the male pausing. He turned his head to see who it was coming up behind him. He grinned a bit when he recognized the horse. "Kasia." He called out to the familiar face as his tail wagged behind him. He waited right where he was for the female to get to where he was. "What are you doing out this way?" He asked as he tilted his head, him being in his four legged form to make marking easier, to be able to try to get a glance the female up on top of the horse.

When a reddish figure apepared in the distance, she felt her tail twitch a little bit in expectation. She had grown to sympathize with Cartier, she felt some familiarity towards him, and his pesence was very much welcomed. "Hello, Cartier." She said as a response to his greeting. "I was trying to find my way to the other side of the territory." She looked around as she said that, before focusing o the lupus form in fron of her. "Would you happen to know where are the ravens? I was curious about them." She said, hesitantly. She was a little bit ashamed that she had not explored the territory to its full, despite having been there for several full moons.

She did not dwell on those thoughts for too long, though, she remembered her promise of teaching him the basics to blacksmithing so he didn't depend on others for arrows. That seemed reasonable, but she never saw him during the hardest of winter. She understood, those were harsh times, and she had to look over Yari as well. "I hope that you have not forgotern my promise to teach you how to make the arrow tips. Coincidentally I already have a pupil." She said, remembering Kallistos' eagerness to start his lessons. That had been quite random, now that she thought about it, but he was young, trying new things was still part of his nature. "Kallistos...Moineau. I think that ou may know him..." She wondered, tilting her head. While she waited for his answer, she held the reins tightly, wondering whether it would be a good idea to change to lupus right there. She had actually assumed Secui yesterday, in order to catch the day's meal. But now...she actually preferred being on top of Mariama. "Would you like to go by horse or by feet?" She asked. If he chose his optime form, she didn't mind waiting for him. It was all in the sake of the journey, and all she cared was seeing the raven's lair.

"Well I can help out with that. I was just out marking out some trails since I noticed some new faces about lately." He couldn't imagine what it was like to be new to a place. He couldn't begin to wrap his mind around what it would be like to not know one's way around a place. He had been born here and so he felt he knew everything there was to know about Inferni, granted that wasn't exactly true. But still he liked to think of himself as being knowledgeable.

Cartier was quick to shake his head. "I haven't. Fuerza has been needing a lot of work. He isn't exactly trusting but he is getting there. I have gotten him to take a lead rope and follow so far." Of course the horse required tons more work. It would be an ongoing process to get the stallion and make him into a warhorse. First he had to get the horse to take a rider. The equine had been mishandled and so Cartier had his work cut out for him. Fuerza and Galtero had been eating up most of his time, along with his daily duties around the clan so he hadn't had time for extracurricular activities. He hadn't even been able to train properly as of late.

He nodded his head. "I know Kallistos. He belongs to Brumaire and Nathaniel." He was on friendly terms with the boy though he couldn't say he knew too much about the other's interests. But then again the other might just be starting to get some as Cartier had spent more time with Kalli when the other had been a pup and so he hadn't the ability to do too much. But it had been the boy who had done what he could to help gather wood to get them through the winter. One thing he could say for Kalli is that the male was an eager one and ready to jump into anything and everything.

"You can go by horse and I can go like this. I can mark a path along the way so that others won't get lost." Of course that meant a lot of stopping and starting for Cartier but he didn't mind that. He had no idea if Kasia was in a rush though. "It will take me longer to show you though. I could just tell you where to head if you would prefer."Though he had no idea just how good his spoken directions would be. He wasn't exactly a master at describing things to someone who didn't already have some inclination of what it was that he was talking about. "It is your choice as to what you want to do." Either way he would be getting this path marked out. It was the female's choice whether she wished to accompany him in the matter or if she preferred a speedier journey to the other side of the territory.

Kasia could not deny the relief that hit her when Cartier confirmed her already present suspicions, that he had been too busy to reach out for her and fulfill her promise to teach him metal crafting. She still kept that detail in mind and would be eager to fulfill it as soo as the male was ready to do so. Until then, she'd focus on what she was yet to do now. The ravens. She felt curious about those birds, and why Inferni chresished them so much. She'd heard about them being very intelligent, bonding with their master or "companion" as if they were of the same species. Some examples of this had been provided back in Freetown, when either jesters or merchants appeared with theirs perched on their shoulder, sometimes doing tricks, sometimes being silent, and sometimes doing the master's requests. She could swear that once she saw one talking with its animal, as if they were carrying a normal conversation. That had been...odd, but it just served to spark the curiosity for these intelligent little fellows.

Kasia nodded when Cartier acknowledged Kallistos, and further nodded when he named the parents. She had heard about the same-sex couple a few times, but unfortunately did not know them personally. She suspected that Brumaire and her would actually get well acquainted.

Shrugging off her young pupil, she recalled her initial purpose and allowed him to lead the road. He decided to remain on all fours to keep marking the road, and she agreed with a nod. He pointed out that that way it would take longer, but she did not care. It was better remaining with a faithful guide rather than getting lost in her own packland, and that was shameful, from her point of view. "If you don't mind, I'll stick with you. I'd rather missinterpret your signals and get lost." He was still busy marking the paths, and she could see why. There were several new members, including herself, in the pack. And the arkings were very useful, they had helped her guide herself and find the reddish hued Magister. Picking a path, she signaled Mariama to move forward "Lets go..." she said, before realizing that probably that was not the direction Cartier intended to take her. "It is in that direction, right?" She asked, a grey finger pointing toards the road that the brown-eyed female intended to take.

Cartier didn't mind that the female wished to tag along with him. Having company might not make this seem like such a long and boring task, though Cartier was happy to do it in order to help out the clan. He would do whatever he possibly could for the clan. It was his home and so he wished to make it a welcoming place for all who joined. He wanted to make it easy on the newcomers for them to be able to get settled in.

The female's eagerness to go see the raven's had Cartier altering his course. He would just have to finish this particular route later. Instead he turned in the direction that would eventually take them to the forest where the ravens resided. "Yes, that is right." The young male agreed once he was questioned. The coyote picked up his pace and trotted on ahead to get in front of the horse so that he could end up leading.

The trip took longer than it normally would, just as Cartier had said it would, as it was filled with numerous pauses along the way. Cartier was marking out a trail for anyone else whom was curious about the ravens and wasn't certain exactly how to find them. "Just up ahead." He announced once Ravenswrest came within sight. "The ravens live all throughout this area. It can get really noisy in the forest when they are all speaking at once. Most squawk about wanting something to eat so it is a good idea to bring some treats along with you. Each one prefers different things but most will eat almost anything that is brought to them but some are really picky." He decided to give the female a warning about the birds's habits.

The trip was uneventful for the most part. Cartier agreed to lead the way and positioned himself in front of the horse to avoid her losing sight of him. She just made a couple of pauses when she identifies a place she had left a trap the other day. She got one rabbit ad retrieved the wire, figuring that she may need those later. After that, they did not talk much.

On their way, Kasia thought once again about the ravens that she had seen in Freetown. Would it be ok to bond with one of the locals? She was not sure if they could be taken as pets, or rather as partners. She knew by others that those were some smart birds, and had a very good memmory. Should she take the risk? She was not sure. Anyways, at least she wanted to see them, bond with them, and maybe later she could take advantage of a future association.

Just as Cartier promised, the trip did not take very long. Well, not as much as she believed. He had to make several pauses along the way to mark the path, and she did not put any objection. That was his work after all. She did not know if her assistance would be required, hence did not say nothing, leaving the work to him. She simply waited patiently for him to mark a tree or rock before going on. At one point she began to hear caws, low at first and higher in tone as they approached the yet invisible destination. Some shadows flew above her head every now and then, and she couldn't avoid looking at them with awe. A couple of them kept their eyes on her as she passed by the trees they were standing on, and she figured that the meat she was carrying had already catched their attention. The brown-eyed woman then turned her eyes forward, trying not to lose the reddish figure walking in front of her. The male finally came to a stop, as did she, and explained her a few things about the place and the ravens. "It figures." She said, regarding the noisy atmosphere. Several animals were flying around a clearing not far away from them, cawing all at the same time and producing a sound that forced her to rise her voice a little bit to make herself understandable. "I have the rabbit, is it useful?" She asked before dismounting from Mariama, and allowing her to roam around. She wouldn't go too far away, and would answer to her master's call. Instead, she focused on the ravens and her coyote companion.

It was loud once they got beneath the trees and Cartier ended up folding his ears against his head in order to block out a good amount of the noise. No matter how many times he visited the area he was still unable to get used to exactly how loud it could get when surrounded by a multitude of birds. When they all decided to talk at once then it could get practically deafening just being under the trees with them.

The coyote male glanced back to the female as she spoke. "Yeah, that could work. Just be careful. Once you offer food they all tend to want it at once. It would be best to get rid of it quickly and get out of the way." He knew what it was like to get swarmed and overwhelmed by the hungry birds. One had to watch their fingers in such a case.

Cartier returned his attention back to the birds that flew about overhead or simply perched in the branches of the trees. The male was on the lookout for a certain bird. He found himself that he couldn't see the mangy, one-eyed bird anywhere. That didn't mean that Plagas wasn't around though. He had no doubt that the bird was hiding out somewhere and waiting to attack. Perhaps the raven was waiting to get him alone so that he could make his move.

"Vesper knows a lot about these ravens. If you want to learn more then it would be best to talk to her." Cartier offered up. The sub-leader could speak the language of the birds unlike himself. She also knew their habits and their likes much better than he did. It was simply on his to-do list to learn more about the birds that Vesper seemed to enjoy. He simply wanted another facet to allow him to remain close to her. After all he owed his life to her, and to Myrika as well.
