That adventurous side of his would always be hard to fend off, stormy weather or not. And since the skies only held clouds heavy with the threat of rain, the Marino found it imperative that he step out for some fresh air while it was still dry out. He slipped easily from the manor and into the quiet, gray afternoon, taking up a light stride out toward the nearby Rabbit Lake. The waters rippled with a slight breeze, disrupting the sheet of grey reflected upon its surface. He lingered by the shores nearest to Haven Manor, arms casually crossed over his chest. He closed his eyes for a moment and heaved a sigh for no reason in particular, content to simply stand by the water and enjoy the cool feel of the breeze rustling his fur. After a moment the male opened his amber eyes, staring distantly across the water. His gaze slowly drifted to the far side of the shore where he could see the skeleton structure of Old Red in the distance. What bits of the building that remained standing looked almost eerie cast against the dull grey sky, surrounded by the debris of its partial collapse. It gave him an odd feeling each time he went near it, and he knew it had to be from his memories of the day it fell apart and the frantic rescue of his niece and sibling that ensued. But thankfully they were both on the road to recovery, and they could all begin to forget the horrible worries that plagued them that day. - Ghita Marino - 05-14-2010 [html]
- Ehno Marino - 05-20-2010 [html] wc: 558 The Marino continued to watch the silent debris of the old barn sitting across the lake for a few moments more, seemingly mesmerized by its ominous shape lurking so near. He shut his eyes, and for a moment it almost seemed like the image of the collapsed barn had burned itself into his mind’s eye, the mental image just as sharp and detailed as it was in true life. It didn’t take much of an effort to banish the image from his thoughts, and he just as quickly replaced it with a memory of the barn’s original form. Ehno could remember the old building exactly as it had stood not months before, and despite the charm and familiarity that surrounded it at that time, he could only detect a sinister, deceiving energy about it now in his memories. Had the pack of Dreamers been blinded by Old Red’s comfortable familiarity so much that they couldn’t have noticed the inherent danger the aging barn held? Of course, there was no point in dwelling on it now, though the Marino didn’t have much of a chance to let his thoughts focus on it for much longer as a familiar scent drifted toward him that caused his eyes to snap open. For a brief moment, Ehno’s thoughts didn’t find any peculiarity in discovering that his sibling was apparently out at the lakeside, enjoying the fresh air. With the thoughts of the barn’s collapse still fresh in his mind, it didn’t take him more than a moment to remember the injured state of Ghita and the rather strict prescription of bed rest she had been given. It really shouldn’t have surprised him, knowing the wild and free spirit his dusty-coated sibling possessed. There was never much that could keep Ghita from doing what she wanted, even back when they were young pups across the sea. Surely his sibling wouldn’t allow even a broken leg to hinder her in her ambitions for but a moment. Honestly, he should have realized that she would have started sneaking around sooner or later, especially with her injuries making a rather smooth (if understandably slow) recovery. The Italian man turned to face the wind’s source, finding exactly what the invisible messenger had alerted him to. His amber gaze caught his sibling as she turned away, hobbling back the way she came with the aid of her makeshift crutch. Despite the protective instincts telling him to scold her for risking further injury to her damaged leg, he felt a grin slither to his features at the sight of her frenetic retreat. It was a rather amusing image from where he stood, and he couldn’t help but admire his plucky sibling as she tottered away. He watched her continue onward for another moment, allowing her to lengthen her head start and hold onto the illusion of sweet freedom for a bit longer. Then, he took off after her with a relaxed jog, determined to catch up before she could get into too much trouble, but confident enough that she could handle herself a while longer. “Ghita,” he called as he began to finally close the distance between them. “Can’t turn around without you wandering off, now can I?” His tone was light and slightly teasing, but he knew his sibling would understand the true worry that lie behind them. - Ghita Marino - 05-23-2010 [html]
- Ehno Marino - 06-06-2010 [html] wc:563 Oh, he certainly tries to be. ;D The remaining distance between the two siblings quickly disappeared, made easier when Ghita finally gave up her futile flight and settled down to the earth. Even as he closed the distance, Ehno could see the clear look of displeasure on her features and in her posture. He wouldn’t have expected any other reaction from his fiery sibling, and he took this typical behavior of hers as a sign that her recovery was still moving along smoothly at its slow and steady pace. She appeared to be just fine, and if her demeanor was any indication, he was certain that she wouldn’t hesitate to tell him that. The Italian man took a seat beside his sibling, and her hostile bearing diminished slightly as he settled down. She spoke, one excuse of the many she likely had in mind for her sneaking around. Ehno understood her need to dole out the excuse, just as he understood the truth that rang within her words. Ehno had had plenty of time during the journey of his youth to adjust to living with a roof over his head, while as far as he was aware, Ghita had no such opportunity. Certainly, she travelled during the years she was separated from her siblings, but her wanderings had likely allowed her to remain intimate with the nature around her. The Marino woman’s love of the great outdoors seemed to be a part of her, just as much as her fiery and rambunctious personality. “Understandable,” he said, amber gaze settling on his sister. “Even I can’t stay cooped up in there for long without needing to get out and about.” Sympathy danced in his tone, mixing easily with the Marino’s Italian lilt. He couldn’t imagine being confined to the manor day after day, restricted from movement by a wounded leg. Ehno couldn’t blame his sibling for wanting to escape, to be able to actually move freely around on her own again. This daring little venture of his sister’s was necessary for her. Her injury needed time and rest in order to heal, but she needed fresh air and independence in order to keep herself from going crazy in the meantime. One or the other wouldn’t be enough to make her recovery as swift as possible, but a healthy mix of the two would be just what was needed. He wanted her to move about on her own, but the worry was still there. Just as Ghita would always be free-spirited and independent, Ehno would always be protective of his family. His sibling spoke again, her words assuring him that she was on the cusp of full recovery and that she would be back in full force within a few days. The challenge was clear in her eyes, and he was certainly tempted to meet it. Such bold, confident words were typical of Ghita, but he didn’t want to see her getting hurt on some even more daring venture. Surely she knew her limits, though it wasn’t likely that she would be quite so eager to admit them. “I’m sure that will be a sight to see.” He really was eager to see his sibling back up to full speed, but only when she was truly ready. “You must have some new, great treatment if you’ll be running around again that soon.” Some of his skepticism snuck its way into his words. - Ghita Marino - 06-13-2010 [html]
- Ehno Marino - 06-24-2010 [html] Haha, oh noes! XD Also, sorry for this post being kinda short and wonky--I had to stop half-way through it and it kinda threw off my groove. :o wc:351 Ghita was quick to see the veiled challenge in his words, as he knew she would. The familiar fire seemed to light up within her, fuel for the display of flashing teeth and a contemptuous roll of her eyes. Certainly it wasn’t his intention to rile her up; condescending attitudes and her subsequent flash of temper wouldn’t be any help at all for her slow-going recovery and the already present stress that plagued her. All Ehno wanted to do was make her see that the healing process would take time, despite her protests and wishes that it would be otherwise. He should have expected such a reaction from her. She had always too stubborn to admit to something that displeased her, and honestly, Ehno could hardly fault her for that. That didn’t mean that he would simply sit back and take her verbal lashing. It frustrated the Marino man to be thrust into this situation again, but he didn’t know what he would have expected otherwise. It was a dance the siblings should have grown used to by now. Ehno kicked it off with his usual overbearing protective ways and Ghita responded with her defiant attitude. Same old song and dance with a new tune. What else was new? It was practically how their family dynamic was made to work, if this was any indication. He took in her bitter remark and the swift shift to anger in her features and felt a bit of a defiant fire of his own building up within. His own ears were quick to flatten against his skull, mimicking his sibling. “I just don’t want to see you getting hurt any worse,” he shot back defensively. “I know you can take care of yourself, and I know you’re sick and tired of hearing it, but I don’t know what else to tell you, Ghita.” He regretted the ice in his tone, but his frustration gave him little other choice. He knew that his overbearingly protective streak had the tendency to get on her nerves, but it wasn’t as if he could simply switch it off. - Ghita Marino - 07-07-2010 [html]
- Ehno Marino - 07-30-2010 [html] And i'm sorry for taking even longer, lol. XD;; wc:442 Their familiar dance continued, words clashing against words like sword upon sword. One could almost hear the clang of steel in the heated, tense moments between each verbal strike, and the sparks of this conflict only served to further kindle the flames of the siblings’ growing anger. To any outside perspective witnessing this spat between siblings, it would seem like quite a wonder for the two Marinos to calm themselves and forgive each other after such a fight. By now it was simply the ebb and flow of their relationship; it was their age-old formula drafted up in childhood now being perfected by them as adults. There was Ghita’s hot-headed response, barely masking the flash of her teeth. He was nearly taken aback by her words, the way she almost seemed to label him as a villain as if he was simply blowing this out of proportion to take a stab at her pride. Of course she probably knew he was only bringing this up with her best interests in mind, but she would never acknowledge it as such. She refused to even concede that point of understanding, and it was a source of constant frustration to Ehno, especially during a heated quarrel such as this. “I’m not—” Ehno clipped his defense short with a frustrated shake of his head when Ghita stubbornly turned away from him. He sighed in frustration as she tried to further convince him that she was fine, biting back the retort he was instinctually ready to launch. It wasn’t for the love of the argument, but out of his concern for her well-being. Maybe right now fighting wasn’t the answer. Their usual bickering would often take a toll on each of them, and that hardly seemed like the best way to promote Ghita’s overall well being during such a time of great stress. He ran a hand through his chocolate mane and tried to curb his agitation. It was a daunting task at times when this fiery side of him seldom showed itself, and the flickering flames of his anger weren’t so eager to be quickly extinguished. He was tiring of this conversation already, and if the quickest way for them to move on from it was for him to throw this little bickering match, fine. If this was how she wanted to play this right now, he would follow along. “Fine, Ghita. You’re fine.” There was a touch of a frustrating sigh of resignation punctuating his words and it was the only outward sign of his disapproval in the outcome of this encounter. And how easy it would be for her to see through it. - Ghita Marino - 08-05-2010 [html]
- Ehno Marino - 08-05-2010 [html] wc:339 Silence settled itself between them once again, hovering there so thick with tension that it was almost palpable. Neither of them moved, perhaps out of stubbornness or perhaps out of sheer cluelessness of where to take this argument next. Ehno remained just as still as his sibling, part of him wanting to say something to break the silent tension, even if they were to only go back to squabbling like children again. But the rest of him didn’t want to give her the satisfaction of giving into the moment again. He had already begrudgingly given her the victory in this argument, and he wasn’t about to let her stubbornness coerce him into starting it back up again. The male was nearly ready to simply get up and walk away from this whole situation when she finally spoke. He almost thought he imagined it, the words were so faint. Amber eyes drifted back to stare at his sister, his surprise clear in their depths. Ghita remained mostly still, but he caught the slight adjustment of her ears and had to believe then that what he heard was real. It was so like her, so unwilling to apologize in every other instance that when she finally did it was so reluctantly quiet, almost as if she hoped that he wouldn’t hear her. Her next words did infinitely more to extinguish the still crackling flames of his anger than any of his own attempts through the stifling silence. Slowly the tension leaked away from him, and he sighed deeply from the release. “I’m sorry too,” he managed after a moment, amber gaze seeking out her furtive turquoise orbs. He hadn’t intended to let this escalate into the debate it had become, and he did truly hate unnecessarily adding to her stress. He leaned over and nudged her briefly with his muzzle, an act he hoped she would interpret as reassuring. “You have every right to be scared. But you can get through this. Nothing can get the better of my fiery sister.” - Ghita Marino - 08-07-2010 [html]
- Ehno Marino - 08-10-2010 [html] Short post. o: We can probably wrap it up here? Lemme know. <3 The silence and the utter calmness of the weather out by the lakeside today still lingered about them as before, but it felt so much different. Only moments ago it had seemed so suffocating and stifling to be surrounded by such tranquility while stepping to the dance of anger and argument that the siblings had perfected years before. Now the quietude seemed much more comforting, as if someone had draped a warm blanket over their weary shoulders and whispered soothing words into their ears. It was such a simple change, and at the same time, an astounding one. The Marino man kept his gaze locked with his earthen hued sibling, just as aware of the silent understanding that they passed between their depths. Simply stopping like this and taking in the situation wasn’t something either of the Italians had considered before, but right now it seemed like the perfect remedy to their frequent bantering. He could only smile at Ghita’s little comment. As she took Ehno’s hand in hers, he gave her hand a gentle, reassuring squeeze, the smile on his lips softening just a bit. He was glad for the unexpected little turn this ‘conversation’ of theirs had taken, enjoying the closeness of the moment and the tranquility that seemed to settle over them. |
