(307 words) The charred remains comforted him. It was somehow comforting to Hybrid to know that Inferni was in no ways invincible. Although it might have seemed that way and they strove to project that image, it was a relief to know it was only a projection. It was a relief to know he was still needed here and that without his services – whatever they may have been – things could have been much worse. Hybrid frowned at the strange feeling bubbling up in his chest, unfamiliar with it. It wasn’t happiness or anger, and it was not annoyance. It had to be pride: pride that Inferni could be broken.

Hybrid squinted as he looked directly in to the sun, which was slowly declining. The setting sun! Had Hybrid an ounce of appreciation for the finer things in life, he might have commented on the beauty of the scene before him. The sun was casting long, soft rays of light across the beach so everything was illuminated. The fire-torn trees swayed gently in the distance; they still stood despite the damage from the last Dahlian war. Again, Hybrid’s gaze returned to the unfamiliar coyote. He said nothing, waiting for the other canine to either speak or wander off. If nothing happened, Hybrid would begin a border patrol. Although he was more likely to find a wayward coyote in need of a home, he still preferred to examine the state of the territory first hand. Hybrid took a few steps closer to the other creature. While he knew he should care about the other members of Inferni, socializing had never been too high of a priority unless the clan member was a warrior. Hybrid tended to have rather rotten luck with the other members of Inferni -- they were either too uppity or too stupid. We can end the thread or continue it if you want! I left it open in case you want Spyr to do somethin'. :O
The wolfish canine continued to gawk at him, but said nothing. Hybrid frowned as the familiar feeling of annoyance crept up on him again. Since the creature said nothing to him, Hybrid had assumed it was just another wayward Inferni member wandering by the beach. No matter; Hybrid wasn’t in the mood to entertain the newcomers so it was probably best the other canine said nothing. However, when the male looked at Hybrid and began to walk away, Hybrid found himself growling in agitation. He looked right at him! And then promptly walked away to stick his damn feet in the sand!
Hybrid shook his head, letting his low growl grow. With the wind, he doubted the other canine would be able to hear him, no matter who he was or what his intentions were. Whatever the reason, Hybrid was not impressed. He began to stalk away, more annoyed at the lack of attention than he would have expected. He supposed that he had anticipated some sort of acknowledgement, and when he failed to receive it, he felt snubbed. Well, it didn’t matter anyways – he hadn’t wanted to meet anyone or converse with them. This just gave him the opportunity to leave without a hassle, even if he still felt a little hurt.
|
