For Saul Big Grin
343

Going through her duties the past few days was more than painfully regular. The expanse of time since she was stuck in bed recovering had not yet been fulfilled with what she missed. Her wrist that had taken the fall had healed nicely, but this was in her own opinion.

She couldn’t recall from whom, but someone had claimed that a new Apothecary was named in Dahlia de Mai. At first the news was just news to her, but after a few days of dealing with the stiffness of her wrist, Ever decided to pay a visit.

As usual, the silver female awoke early when the sun was just casting colors on the ocean water. Saphraine stood by, dozing in the golden dusk of the morning, but became alert as soon as the soft sound of the door closing filled the air. Together, they rode to the stables and fed and watered the horses. With a smile on her face, Ever promised to come by later in the afternoon to groom them.

It was warming up steadily as spring neared, pushing up buds and painting the tips with pale pinks. By now the sun was nearly in the sky and began to attract tufts of clouds tinted with orange and red. Ever pointed her muzzle upwards to admire the season’s beauty. She had plenty of time to enjoy the beginning of spring’s song since neither her or her golden steed had a perfect idea of where Dahlia de Mai was.

Upon coming close to the border, Ever slowed Saphraine to a gentle walk. She could feel her pulse begin to quicken at the thought of being attacked from trespassing. As the scent of the Dahlian’s became stronger, the girl stopped her stallion. He tossed his head in anticipation but she calmed him with a delicate touch of her fingers. It felt odd, being so close to somewhere the hybrid was unfamiliar with, so she decided to wait, stretching out along Saphraine’s silk of a mane.

The thrum of paws on drying earth was a common one around the Dahlian borders. They were dropping in numbers, trying slowly to claw their way back up to the top once more. But their territory remained the same and that meant an increase in the border patrols that the higher members of the pack were going on. To keep those within safe and warm and happy, they patrolled the borders, constantly renewing scent markers and keeping other off their lands. Of course, they were in relative times of peace right now and they weren't being attacked from all sides. But there was still an urgency to remain alert and active around the pack borders. Saul was no different and as the third highest ranked wolf in Dahlia at present, he was loathe to lax in his job. His lupus form was the form he was most comfortable running in and therefore he was on all fours today as he moved north of the spring and the cabin beside the spring he called home. Siku was nowhere in sight and Saul felt happy that he was not neglecting her. His best friend could be a little needy at points.

A strong northerly wind brought the scent of a foreigner to his nose. There appeared to be no malintent behind this scent, but Saul picked up the pace towards the northern borders. If there was someone there in order of assistance, he would be there. Conor seemed to have slipped recently, exhaustion weighing the man down. Saul was never one to pry into the lives of others but he was worried about the autumn hued man. He obviously didnt get enough sleep and his exhaustion was dragging him down. Perhaps he would find a sleeping drug for him that would give him at least a couple of hours sleep. Thoughts of Conor were driven from his mind as he approached the border, the sight of a slight woman and a golden hued horse came into view. He didnt recognise the smell, but there was no need for rudeness from either party, was there?

"Good morning miss. You are almost upon Dahlia de Mai borders- is there anything I can help you with?"

Came his polite enquiry, an appraising look given to the horse she had with her. Once his own house was done up to standard Saul planned on building some stables and a paddock out by the stream. Perhaps the rest of the pack might benefit from a larger stables. Still, he pushed these thoughts from his mind as he concentrated on the silver female in front of him, wondering what she wanted.

Her eyes closed softly after a moment, letting her uninjured arm drift down the side of her horse’s neck. She moved her fingers in circles and messaged the muscles under his supple golden skin. The breezes came and went while she waited, kissing her bare shoulders and raking the leaves off a couple trees. Scents were carried into the air sweet with spring flowers or ocean mist. Ever sighed and slipped further down on Saphraine’s crest, continuing to lace her other hand into his mane.

During the duration of the time she lingered at the borders came thoughts from back home. Nearly all of the snow patches had melted which came to quite a relief to the silver girl. Even though all the obstacles had disappeared from her trail, she found it difficult to visit friends or family. It wasn’t a choice to decide each day whether or not to take the trip to Lunenberg or Halifax, but the matter of not wanting to leave the house. Ezra had been scarce around their beach side shack to the point of where the girl had spent an unbearable amount of time in bed alone.

She shifted again atop her steed, this time catching a slightly different aroma carried by spring’s breath. Ever detected the spicy sweet scent of a Dahlian fast approaching, mixed with the minty taste of herbs. Ocean hued eyes scanned the inside of the territory, gaze drawn to bright spots of color. Rich jade and sea greens stood out starkly compared to the nearly colorless ocean line her eyes were used to yielding.

Although currents of fragrance came in quick waves, the silver girl couldn’t sense any anger or disruption of the natural serenity that became spring. Suddenly, a wolf in tones as earthy and warm as the flora itself appeared in the distance. He approached with ease which instantly calmed Ever. She slipped gracefully off Saphraine, addressing his caring nicker by taking his head in her hands and stroking the easy white blaze on his face.

The boy greeted her as soon as he came close and reminded her she was close to the borders. Ever nodded, brushing back her plethora of amber curls along with the end of her winter blue plaid scarf.

Thank you, and yes, actually. I am here in search for the newly appraised Apothecary,

The silver hybrid replied, adding on one of her gently dazzling smiles. Saphraine pushed against her palm, eyeing the male protectively.

Green eyes watched as the female dismounted, calming hands running over the horse to soothe and quieten him. Of course, his medical mind could see a slight hitch in one of her wrists, a slight hesitation and a lack of confidence in putting weight on that particular pawnd that Saul could see was bothering her. Of course, he pushed it to the back of his mind quickly, intillectual mind curious as to why the female was here. Her still had no idea what pack she was from nor could he identify the scent she carried with her. But perhaps she would reveal herself soon. As she came to nestle by the horses head, a smile caught her lips and Saul returned it. She was friendly, as he had anticipated. Cinnamon-backed ears pricked forward where he stayed on all four as the female responded to his words.

There was no new named Medicine wolf, but Saul was working towards it. He knew he needed to learn more about illnesses and other such things, but he was working hard to prove to Conor that he was competent enough already to be given to co-rank of Apothecary. Saul wondered whom the silver female had heard if from. Of course, now his intelligent mind worked easily to put these things together- she was here because she needed medical assistance. With the barest flicker of concentration Saul shifted, growing taller and standing on two paws instead of four. He would need his hands for this. Of course, he had to tell her that he wasnt properly qualified and let her decide whether she still wished to be examined.

"I am the one seeking the Apothecary co-rank, although I have not yet earnt it. My name is Saul Stormbringer. Might I ask what is wrong?"

He asked, menta library searching through the knowledge he had obtained on his travels, the vast amount of information on medicinal herbs and his own experiances with nature to find something that would help him. Critical eye could see no other outward sign of illness or pain than her wrist, but he would wait and see what she had to say first.

Sosovery sorry for the wait, love! <3

She watched the boy return her greeting of a smile. Once Saphraine’s breathing had become normal, the silver girl removed her hands and placed them carefully at her sides. The Dahlian male seemed easy enough, his ears perked in interest instead of backed in hostility. Her smile remained, softer and absent although tinted with slight concern.

”I am Ever Mayawyn, of Cour des Miracles. We have not seen our own Apothecary since the snowstorm,

Ever admitted, uncomfortable with revealing a fault in the inner workings of the pack. She pulled her arms back up an produced the inside of her injured wrist.

I broke the bone in my wrist when the winter started while upon my stallion,

She glanced into the eye of her golden haflinger, pleased to see him remaining calm.

It has healed, but even during the recuperation I had not had it examined. Although you are currently the youth in training I was seeking someone with at least some general knowledge nearby to help.

Her wrist was left adrift, fur pulling in the distance sea breeze. It felt odd being so far outside the territory. She could sense the slight discomfort at being close to trespassing. Her nose was still unused to the spicy sweet scents of Dahlia de Mai. Although still far from familiar sights, Ever could make out the signs of spring beyond the neighboring border. Bright buds stood out gently against ripening grass.
