Oak once again stole a wary glance at the skulls lining the border of the territory, his face twisting into a grimace. He had heard rumor that Inferni was a dangerous place, but he had not expected to see such a brutal barrier indicating their claimed land. The fleshless skulls of countless canines were a harsh sight to his innocent eyes, awakening a mortal fear in him that matched nothing he had ever felt. The sun glinted off the bleached white bone with ghostly beauty, and he shivered despite the spring sun that was beaming golden from above, looking away.
He had tried to remain content with the answers his mother gave him about his father. Gabriel was a leader, busy with responsibilities and a life of his own. Oak assumed his mother meant that he should leave his father alone, never to distract the mysterious man with his presence. But the strong-willed boy was no longer satisfied to leave his identity unsolved. He did not think he could move forward in his life without meeting the one who had fathered him. Had it not been for this pressing desire, Oak would have fled at first sight of the sickening display. His black-tipped tail twitched involuntarily as he arched his neck and emitted a low howl, announcing his presence. He sat in the grass of soft jade, well away from the morbid spectacle, his ears pressed against his head, cobalt eyes flitting nervously beyond the barrier into the land of his father. .Oakfreebe01 b {font-weight:bold; color:#3f7b90; letter-spacing:1px; text-shadow: 0.1em 0.1em 0.2em #e1dad0; } .Oakfreebe01-ooc {font-style:italic; padding:0px; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size:12px; color:#97552d; text-align:right;} .Oakfreebe01 p {text-indent:0px; padding:5px 15px; margin:0px;} .Oakfreebe01 {margin:0 auto; width:460px; background-color:#ffffff; background-image:url(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/ ... able01.png); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; border:1px solid #dec2a4; padding: 190px 0px 10px 0px; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size:12px; color:#97552d; letter-spacing:.3px; word-spacing:.9px; line-height:12.3px; text-align:justify;} .Oakfreebe01-border1 {width:462px; border:3px solid #ffffff; margin:0 auto;} .Oakfreebe01-line1 {width:430px; border-bottom:1px dotted #dec2a4; margin:0 auto 3px auto;} </style> #300+
- Talitha de le Poer - 04-27-2011
mall-caps;text-varientmall-caps;">IT'S ONLY cript;">FOREVER, NOT LONG AT ALL
Things had become strange. Where once there had been the ruined remnants of the strong Archangel's daughter, there was now the faintest traces of a healing heart. She smiled more as the days passed on, and laughter filled her life again as she painted landscapes and crafted new songs. Color had returned. Life seemed pleasant, hopeful, worth living. Quite a change from the morbid de le Poer who had crossed the world in the past, tarnished by the violent touch of a deceased uncle and a wrathful God. It was this new princess who found herself crossing the territory with a brightly painted skull in her hands, smiling ever so gently at the flowers and vines that followed the contours of the bone. Where there had once been a fierce member of a violent clan, there was peace. Things had become strange. An unfamiliar howl rung out across the land as her delicate, paint-covered hands set the bleach-and-painted skull in place at the border. Those who sought to live within the skull-lined borders often felt the stinging tongue of the Aquila's eldest — and in her mind, only — daughter. Today, however, was different. In her good mood, she crossed the world in search of that who had called to her, crimson eyes filled with cheer leading the way. What she found caused the smile upon her cream-hued jaws to fade, for it was not a coyote seeking entrance. It couldn't be. He was much too large, much to wolfish, and much too nervous as he sat away from the skulls. Thin arms crossed before what was becoming a healthy female torso and she allowed herself to hide behind the invisible borders of her home. "Do you need something wolf?" she asked, voice soft and curious, for she knew he must have wanted something. His coat smelled familiar, so similar to that of a Pixie and the outraged silver creature found within Halifax, but she had never seen him in her time returned; perhaps he came for some reason that transcended her most recent settle back into the lands of Inferni. <style> .ns01 {margin:0px auto;width:450px;background-color:none;background-image:none;background-position:top middle;background-repeat:no-repeat;border:none;padding:0px;font-family:times new roman, sans-serif;font-size:13px;line-height:16px;letter-spacing:.5px;text-align:justify;margin-top:15px;} .ns01-ooc {font-style:italic;font-size:11px;margin:2px; padding:0px;text-align:left;} .ns01 p {text-indent:25px;margin:0px;padding:5px 10px;} .ns01 b {font-weight:bold;letter-spacing:1px;} .ns01 i {font-style:italic;letter-spacing:1px;} </style>
- Oak - 05-06-2011
It had been too long. Anu had warned him to stay away, but he could not heed her desire any longer. He did not think it fair of her to expect him to live without knowing where he had truly come from. Perhaps if he had told her he was leaving for Inferni, his mother would have understood, but still he resented her, and still he felt the itch to rebel against what he believed were her wishes. Cypress had encountered Gabriel months ago, and there was no doubt the lost youth's mind that Alder had crossed paths with their estranged father by now as well. It was his turn. The footsteps he heard were not the unmistakable, heavy thuds expected of a leader, but the light dance of a woman's feet against the earth. Oak lifted his head from where it had wilted, muzzle to chest, eyes searching for the source of the sound and finding lithe shape of the hybrid woman as she added something to the gruesome Inferni border. Only when he focused his attention on the vibrant object whose colors matched the stains on the woman's hands did he understand what she was doing. Not just the act itself nauseated the boy — her scent was familiar to him in manner that chilled his blood, for he did could not identify the commonality between them.
Oak straightened his back and lifted his ears slightly as she approached, feigning strength to prove to her up front that he was not here to be toyed with, although his mood was soured with anxiety. In his state of mind, her crossed arms and her direct question seemed reproachful. His crimson brow furrowed and the cobalt eyes beneath darted stubbornly from the woman's face to the addition she had just made to the boundary, the colors painted on the skull blatant in the sunlight against a backdrop of bright ivory. What did you just do? he asked in a low and needling tone, steeling one last look at the skull before fixing his stare into her crimson pools. .Oakfreebe01 b {font-weight:bold; color:#3f7b90; letter-spacing:1px; text-shadow: 0.1em 0.1em 0.2em #e1dad0; } .Oakfreebe01-ooc {font-style:italic; padding:0px; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size:12px; color:#97552d; text-align:right;} .Oakfreebe01 p {text-indent:0px; padding:5px 15px; margin:0px;} .Oakfreebe01 {margin:0 auto; width:460px; background-color:#ffffff; background-image:url(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/ ... able01.png); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; border:1px solid #dec2a4; padding: 190px 0px 10px 0px; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size:12px; color:#97552d; letter-spacing:.3px; word-spacing:.9px; line-height:12.3px; text-align:justify;} .Oakfreebe01-border1 {width:462px; border:3px solid #ffffff; margin:0 auto;} .Oakfreebe01-line1 {width:430px; border-bottom:1px dotted #dec2a4; margin:0 auto 3px auto;} </style> #300+
- Talitha de le Poer - 05-06-2011
mall-caps;text-variantmall-caps;">IT'S ONLY cript;">FOREVER, NOT LONG AT ALL
She watched with her mother's eyes, not the beautiful golden shade worn by her brother and shared in her father and grandmother, and those eyes were what allowed her thoughts to shine through. Curiosity was banished as he straightened, as his ears lifted, as he furrowed his brow and questioned her. Replacing it came distrust and unease. This before her was merely a child, who came to judge and who did not belong. Her slim fingers tapped daintily against her forearms as she wondered if she should explain; in the end, she realized it would not hurt the clan to allow this one to know of their customs. After all, he had found them and called to them for a reason. He would learn sooner or later. Her head lifted, gaze narrowing down the stripe of charcoal fur upon the top of her nose — a mixed marking that gave a hint to both the Lykoi muzzle and her father's dark mask. "I set another decoration on our borders; it was once my job, and as an artist, I continue." One arm extended to motion toward the other craniums that stood clear on their borders. "If it bothers you, then you should leave. This is what we do with dead outsiders, whether we find them or kill them." A bitter truth to the face of Inferni. They were killers, soldiers in more ways than the physical, and their skills were displayed in the form of their skulls. They warned the world. Abandon hope, ye who enters here, it screamed to the outsiders. Inferni was land not touched by those unless given invitation, and so few were willing to invite. Talitha was not one of them. Safe behind their borders, she lifted a plain skull from its place and held it before her chest, studying it in silence for a brief moment. "Our culture is not for you, or others like you, but you must have known about it. After all, you came looking for us; no one dragged you here or made you call out." With a gentle touch, she replaced the trophy, returning accusatory eyes to the orange-and-creme face of the boy-creature. Curiosity returned. Who was he, and what did he want from Inferni. <style> .ns01 {margin:0px auto;width:450px;background-color:none;background-image:none;background-position:top middle;background-repeat:no-repeat;border:none;padding:0px;font-family:times new roman, sans-serif;font-size:13px;line-height:16px;letter-spacing:.5px;text-align:justify;margin-top:15px;} .ns01-ooc {font-style:italic;font-size:11px;margin:2px; padding:0px;text-align:left;} .ns01 p {text-indent:25px;margin:0px;padding:5px 10px;} .ns01 b {font-weight:bold;letter-spacing:1px;} .ns01 i {font-style:italic;letter-spacing:1px;} </style>
- Oak - 05-15-2011
this post is blah and all over the place. but I'd like to say that your writing is simply amazing.
Oak's voice seemed to briefly choke and die in his throat. She had sought and found exactly the right words to resurrect his true purpose for coming into her home. But I can't leave yet. I did come for a reason, he finally spoke what the nameless female already knew. What he said next, however, might be a surprise to her. My father lives here. Gabriel. I've come to meet him. .Oakfreebe01 b {font-weight:bold; color:#3f7b90; letter-spacing:1px; text-shadow: 0.1em 0.1em 0.2em #e1dad0; } .Oakfreebe01-ooc {font-style:italic; padding:0px; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size:12px; color:#97552d; text-align:right;} .Oakfreebe01 p {text-indent:0px; padding:5px 15px; margin:0px;} .Oakfreebe01 {margin:0 auto; width:460px; background-color:#ffffff; background-image:url(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/ ... able01.png); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; border:1px solid #dec2a4; padding: 190px 0px 10px 0px; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size:12px; color:#97552d; letter-spacing:.3px; word-spacing:.9px; line-height:12.3px; text-align:justify;} .Oakfreebe01-border1 {width:462px; border:3px solid #ffffff; margin:0 auto;} .Oakfreebe01-line1 {width:430px; border-bottom:1px dotted #dec2a4; margin:0 auto 3px auto;} </style> #300+
- Talitha de le Poer - 05-15-2011
Awh, thanks! <3 I think your post was fine! XD Easy for me to read! mall-caps;text-variantmall-caps;">IT'S ONLY cript;">FOREVER, NOT LONG AT ALLIt seemed she was correct. As the nameless, rusty male followed the sweep of her arm, she could see in his blue eyes that he did not want to see what he saw. He was disgusted. Her home was different, so much more different, than the homes of those creatures who lived outside. There were no skulls to line their borders. They had no violent artists who kept up the vile decorations. Only Inferni could lay claim to the dark, doggish hands of Talitha and Cotl and pretty little Sage; only Inferni could lay claim to gruesome talent that had sent the cold message of distrust into the world. His distaste was not unusual. He admitted that the sight bothered him, and she gave a gentle nod. Of course it did. So many skulls of wolves would have shaken even the most stable foundation. Her kingdom was filled to the brim with killers, who were loved and trusted by those inside but who did not allow the touch of outsiders inside. Well, most of them did not. The words died in his throat before he could speak them, and she almost expected him to go without complaint, but of course it wasn't so. He couldn't leave, he claimed, for he had come to her borders in search of something. He had a reason. His reason left her blood cold, crimson gaze freezing over and the false smile of her brother finding its way to the front of her features. Gabriel. He had come to meet his father, her father, Gabriel. Silence overtook the Optio as she took in the face of her half-sibling, searching for marks that would identify him as a child of the King. Maybe she did not wish to, for she found not a one. A soft and cold laughter entered the air. "You're mistaken." Her voice was stoney. She wouldn't let another of his bastard children ruin the foothold she had in the world — already she fought for her brother's attention in regards to the disgusting brats fathered in the dog-pack. A step took her across the border, closer to the boy before her. Something feral appeared in the way she watched him. "I don't know who told you that, but they are very wrong. Gabriel only has two children; as I'm one of them, I can assure you that you are not the other. What you hope to find here, a father for your misguided life as some woman's bastard son? It isn't here for you." Each new word dropped her tone lower in her throat. She had to set the story straight before some sense of delusion entered the air; of course, would it be the boy's delusion or her own? The final words caused a change in the air. She stood straighter, she crossed her arms, she relaxed oh-so-slightly. Gabriel wouldn't get the chance to see the boy. Not while Talitha stood guard over her family. <style> .ns01 {margin:0px auto;width:450px;background-color:none;background-image:none;background-position:top middle;background-repeat:no-repeat;border:none;padding:0px;font-family:times new roman, sans-serif;font-size:13px;line-height:16px;letter-spacing:.5px;text-align:justify;margin-top:15px;} .ns01-ooc {font-style:italic;font-size:11px;margin:2px; padding:0px;text-align:left;} .ns01 p {text-indent:25px;margin:0px;padding:5px 10px;} .ns01 b {font-weight:bold;letter-spacing:1px;} .ns01 i {font-style:italic;letter-spacing:1px;} </style>
- Oak - 06-19-2011
Thank you. I'll be quicker from here on out.
A silence followed his words, and he watched with mounting fear as the woman before him grew colder, more sinister, and the respect he had begun to feel for her dissolved into dismay. He felt scorned in her delving crimson gaze, her rapidly growing distaste for him was not lost on him as she searched for something in him, he did not know what. Her words were at once chilling and confusing as her tone dropped and she advanced toward him. Initially, he took a step back, though the sting of her message had lit an angry fire inside, all but replacing his fear. She had insulted his intellect, and worse, his mother. I think you're the one who's mistaken, he spoke coldly, recklessly, to the woman who he now knew was his sister. Either she knew that her father and his was the same man, or she was ignorant, and because of her blatant intelligence he decided it was not the latter that had sparked her hostility toward him.

She wasn't shaken by the sudden boldness in the boy's words, and instead showed silent interest in how he handled her blatant refusal to accept him. The words were cold. The words could get him attacked. But instead, she stayed silent and observed, the usually explosive woman biting her tongue for just a moment. Was she mistaken? Though she knew herself to be right, the fact that the stranger could challenge her ideals of the world was admirable. So few ever did it without caution. He came forward with icy eyes, frustrated as more words rolled off his tongue; they were siblings, she didn't want to accept it, he didn't understand. He didn't understand. Of course. He came from a world that was not Inferni, he had not been raised by the firm paws of Gabriel de le Poer. He hadn't suffered under the hate of wolves, for he was a wolf. "Yes, you don't understand. We are not brother and sister; you are a wolf, and I am a coyote. You were raised outside, and I was raised by him. And why do you think he never told me of you? Why do you think he never told any of us? I only learned through chance; do you think he's proud to have something like you fathered by him, a wolf? Would anyone be? You are not one of us. You don't belong here, and you don't deserve to call him your father. You have not gone through the trials that Ezekiel and I have faced to earn his love, and we're his kind; you have no chance, wolf boy." She was oddly calm as she spoke, crimson eyes never wavering from the iced-over cobalt pair that drilled into her with frustration. Inferni wasn't the place for him. She would never have allowed a wolf child of her father to take him away, not as the dog children had — there was only so much she could handle in the way of losing her father's love. A frail hand rose to rub her brow, eyes closing finally to give her mind a break. "You aren't seeing him. If you continue to stay at our borders, I'll call for someone to remove you by force," she began, one ear flicking to the side. "And I'm sure there are many who would pass over your cries of belonging to add a new head to our borders." A hand reached out to rest atop one of the smooth surfaces of the skulls at her side. <style> .ns01 {margin:0px auto;width:450px;background-color:none;background-image:none;background-position:top middle;background-repeat:no-repeat;border:none;padding:0px;font-family:times new roman, sans-serif;font-size:13px;line-height:16px;letter-spacing:.5px;text-align:justify;margin-top:15px;} .ns01-ooc {font-style:italic;font-size:11px;margin:2px; padding:0px;text-align:left;} .ns01 p {text-indent:25px;margin:0px;padding:5px 10px;} .ns01 b {font-weight:bold;letter-spacing:1px;} .ns01 i {font-style:italic;letter-spacing:1px;} </style>
- Oak - 06-28-2011
End here? I had fun with this thread, I expected Oak to get more riled up, weird it didn't turn out that way. XD The bold, sharp words that had rolled off his tongue had come with surprise even to him, and he was becoming more conscious that they could very well set his demise in motion. He stood silently as the woman became lost in her own thoughts, though he could not deny the satisfaction he felt at the possibility that he had temporarily stumped her. But, as could be expected of a woman he had come to understand as extremely thoughtful, she spoke after the silence had lapsed for mere seconds. As he listened, he realized that she could not be shaken, regardless of his any attempt to shift her perspective on him and his kind.
