- Liam Catori - 10-26-2011
LOL A race?! You WANT to give Liam a heart attack, right? He fought for CdM a few days ago, give him a break! Kidding; short or not, it was an awesome post. =p ↔ 392 words

When he adventured, he wanted to savor it, take in all the details he possibly could. In that way he had become almost familiar with the way most of these buildings towered over him, made of dense brick and concrete and who knows what else. The foreign lands were slowly becoming less strange to him. He would be able to pick out interesting spots to check out based on what he knew, and what looked odd or intriguing to him. That said, racing through the city at the pace the boys picked up was a new and interesting experience to him. He never realized just how hard the pavement felt beneath his feet until now, as he pushed himself to try to win the impromptu race. So much different than the soft soils he was used to around home, and even different than the cool, rough stones that made up portions of the Anatheman caverns. Even the buildings seemed different as he ran past them at high speed, blurring as he passed by with one becoming almost indistinguishable from another. Suddenly he wasn’t feeling so confident that he knew the city very well at all. The two of them pushed themselves for that extra stretch of the race, each eager to steal away the win. Once they’d blown past the small gathering of dark birds, which scattered and cawed at their approach, the race was over. Jackson slowed himself to a halt, a few paces behind Liam. Ah, man, he said, panting to catch his breath. You sure know how to run, eh bro? He found himself grinning despite turning out to be the loser of their little race. It’d been a fun way to get to their destination, what could he say? He’d nearly forgotten about the gathering of feathered creatures they’d run past. The Acidic glanced over his shoulder to see what they had scattered from. It was a mottled mass of fur, almost like a… raccoon? Jackson scrunched up his nose at the sight of it. Dang, that solved that mystery, huh? Birds are havin’ themselves a corpse party. .jackacid b {font-weight:bold; color:#747478; letter-spacing:1px; text-shadow: 0.1em 0.1em 0.2em #080824; } .jackacid p {text-indent:0px; padding:5px 16px; margin:0px;} .jackacid {margin:0 auto; width:450px; background-color:#1c2941; background-image:url(http://i.imgur.com/2v7hs.png); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; border:1px solid #0b052c; padding: 300px 0px 7px 0px; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size:12px; color:#3f4e62; text-shadow: 0.1em 0.1em 0.2em #; letter-spacing:.6px; word-spacing:.9x; line-height:13.3px; text-align:justify;} .jackacid p b:before { content: open-quote; } .jackacid p b:after {content: close-quote; } </style>
- Liam Catori - 10-29-2011
Woo! ↔ 432 words

It had been a close one, as the Court wolf said. Jackson had even had a slight head start, and he’d still managed to lose. The rowdiness of youth made him somewhat competitive, sure, but he wasn’t about to get bent out of shape at the loss. Jackson had had fun with it regardless, and that was what the hybrid boy was all about these days. Besides, there were other ways to settle the score. Yeah, man, Jackson began, grinning up at his new friend, You better watch out. I might just steal the win from ya next time. Whenever that next time might be was fine by him—Jackson wasn’t in any real hurry. Liam seemed like a real cool guy, and Jackson thought it could be fun for them to hang out again sometime. Who knows what life would throw their way. Jackson followed the other to where the poor, unfortunate raccoon was lying a short distance away. He peered down at it with cerulean eyes as Liam crouched down for a better look at the dead thing. Dunno. Maybe the city was just too much awesome for it to handle. Yup, those birds had certainly done a number on it already. Or had that happened before the birds arrived? Well, either way, Jackson didn’t have much time to consider it, for a moment later Liam pointed out a location just perfect for treasure hunting. Ohh, I like the sound of that! Treasure! He laughed, a grin lighting up his features once again. Onward to the treasure! he proclaimed, pointing his staff towards the dilapidated building and beginning to march toward it. The old building looked like it had had one hell of a time out here too. What could have happened to that thing? - Liam Catori - 10-29-2011
Woo! ↔ 511 words

The hybrid boy didn’t really know too many people outside of Anathema, and he was delighted that he was beginning to change that. He was especially glad to have bumped into Liam here in the city today—the Cour des Miracles youth seemed like a lot of fun. The two new friends could likely get into a lot of adventures together. And of course, surprise races. What was better than that? His companion seemed to have his own idea of what might have happened to the unfortunate little raccoon-turned-bird-food. An attack by a larger predator made more sense than Jackson’s explanation. But hey, who’s to say their suggestions had to be mutually exclusive? Maybe that was the manifestation of the city’s awesomeness? Alright, note to self. Be on the look out for lions and coyotes, he joked with a grin. As interesting as that would be to find out here, it would probably be for the best for that mystery to remain unsolved. Jackson ducked down beneath the doorway as Liam had to get inside. That was one thing he wasn’t all that fond of when skulking around the old city; all the doorways were so damn short that the tall boy was always worried about smacking his head against one of them. Humans had to have been some tiny little things, though for as short as they apparently were, they had no trouble building up tall structures, as the city plainly demonstrated. Jackson drifted through the garbage-filled room, taking in the sight of the building. He made his way to one corner of the room where an old plastic table sat. He tapped it experimentally with his staff. The table wobbled slightly, as if one of the legs wasn’t the right length, but it held steady. He glanced over to Liam as he spoke and laughed at the sight of the rotting handle. Dang, time wasn’t all the kind to this place, huh? He crouched down to get a better look at the wobbly table and caught sight of something stashed in the corner. Well, well, what do we have here? It looked like some kind of big metal box, rusting on one side but otherwise intact. The boy reached for it and dragged it out from underneath the table, grunting from the unexpected weight of it. Why was this thing so heavy? Blue eyes darted over to his friend. What d’ya think’s in it? - Liam Catori - 11-02-2011
Blah blah blah! ↔ 414 words

Been having migraines all week. / wc:324 Liam continued to list off more creatures, and boasted that they weren’t a match for them. That brought a grin to the Anatheman youth’s lips along with an eager laugh. Hell yeah! Well, that was certainly something to consider. Nothing can beat our combined power, he said with a grin. Oh, yeah. The two of them would make quite the team, Jackson decided. The fearsome Liam and Jackson, everybody watch out! So now they had to put that teamwork power together there in their search for treasure. In such a dilapidated old building, who knew what they would find or how dangerous it might be to uncover it. Jackson agreed with his new friend that it would be awesome if they could find some cool items that hadn’t been messed up by time. Yeah, man, there’s gotta be something awesome that’s in good condition in here. I can feel it! He looked up eagerly as Liam triumphantly shouted when he opened the shelf. His dejected sigh, however, revealed that their ‘treasure’ wasn’t to be found in there. Damn, no luck yet. The other youth listed off a few ideas of what might’ve been in Jackson’s mysterious box. Food? Dang, maybe. He didn’t want to think about how long food might’ve been in there if that was the case. He nodded at the encouragement and set about trying to see how he could open the box up. Alright, let’s see what you have to offer. He worked his fingers around the edge of the box’s lid and pulled, but it didn’t budge right away. Jackson frowned at it, gave the thing a good whack, then tried again. That was the charm. The lid opened up to reveal… a collection of small toy cars. The hybrid frowned at the contents, reaching in to pick up one of the small cars. What the… he stared at it for a moment before glancing back up at his friend. - Liam Catori - 11-12-2011
Sorry this is so late! Internet died on me. LOL ↔ 359 words

Sorry for the shortness here. / wc:303 Liam seemed just as confused about his find as he was. Well, he was certainly glad it wasn’t food, at least, but these puzzling little metal things only served to summon up more questions. His timber-colored friend thought it was a type of monster. Hell, that was a better explanation than anything Jackson could come up with. The Anatheman boy took a closer look at the one in his hand. Yeah, he supposed it kinda did look like a monster. Man, I dunno. It ain’t nothin’ I’ve ever seen before. But it sure isn’t the scary kind of monster, with no teeth like that… He dug through the collection of toys, curiosity overriding his confusion. Different shapes, too, he mused as he lifted up another of the toys, this one modeled after an old pickup truck. He set that one off to the side, and was about to begin digging through them again when he thought of a much better idea. He scooted back and dumped the contents of the box out onto the floor. It was a slightly noisy affair as all the tiny metal things crashed about, and Jackson winced slightly. But just as quickly the sound was over with, all of the cars settled onto the ground, save for one small one that used what was left of its momentum to role away. He was going to grab after it when something sticking out of the odd pile of metal monsters caught his eye. A-ha! he exclaimed, reaching out for it. He lifted an old set of keys from the pile of toys. Look what we have here, he said, cerulean eyes glancing back up to Liam. Now that was a bit of human technology that he did recognize. Sorry this is short. Jackson watched as the other boy considered the small toy in his hand again. Something about it sure seemed to have his attention. The blue-eyed boy glanced down at the pile of tiny cars he’d created, trying to puzzle out what was so interesting about them. When Liam spoke, his words revealed what had been keeping his attention glued to the small metal thing—he apparently recognized it. And just like that his wolfish friend was out the door. Jackson blinked after him for a moment, confused. He glanced back down toward the pile of cars and picked one up in his free hand. He studied it, trying to see if he could recognize anything about it too, but wasn’t having any luck. Well, sitting in here wasn’t going to do him any good with that. With the toy car and ring of keys in tow, the hybrid boy followed his friend outside, curiosity growing more and more. Liam hadn’t gone far, and in fact peering at something large in the overgrowth. Jackson was puzzled at first, but when Liam spoke, he began to realize just what he was looking at. Cerulean eyes widened in surprise, glancing between the huge beat up car and the tiny model in his hand. Oh man, that’s crazy. Liam’s earlier claim that they all died with the humans now seemed to be somewhat true; sure, it wasn’t exactly a monster in the first place, but this thing here sure looked beat to hell and “dead” to him. We can maybe end it here, or with another post or two? Up to you. o: / wc:344 Jackson couldn’t help but wonder what the name of the thing might be as well. Everything had a name, right? Bears and rats and trees… but what was this thing? Calling it “Big Metallic Monster” seemed a bit clunky. But whatever, they could figure that out later, couldn’t they? Right now there was an investigation to be had, and that was much more important (and more interesting) than figuring out what to call it. While Liam made his way into the car, Jackson busied himself on the other side, peering in through one of the broken windows in the back half of the car. Broken glass was strewn about the torn up seats and the area was littered with all sorts of things, and something that may have once been a rat’s nest. Liam called out from the front of the car, and Jackson glanced up to see Liam holding something up. Alright, sweet! Well, well, it looked like this was a success! The hybrid boy moved over to the front side of the car, glancing through yet another broken window to watch as Liam fiddled with the yellow box. He finally managed to get the thing open, and the smile on his face told Jackson that this certainly was what he’d been searching for all along. Cerulean eyes glanced at the contents of the box for a second, recognizing one or two of the contents, but the rest of it was a mystery to him. He never claimed to be a medic, that was for sure. Liam’s outburst prompted a grin to Jackson’s features. Hell yeah! The best kind of adventures are the ones where you find the treasure, yeah? He was certainly glad that this had been a successful search. Jackson hadn’t expected to have this much fun when he’d decided to run out to the city, but he was sure glad that he had.
