Hemming!! <3
The clay pot was something that was certainly of value, but only to the very few that found a use for it. She had picked the one that was chipped the least, and inside placed soft fertile soil and a yellow day lily. After much debate, Anu decided that a flower would be a proper gift. The one she sought out was one that understood her, and understood the value of an individual’s talent. She could see that he would appreciate such a thing, at least she hoped.
She walked slowly, taking much of the day to travel to the pack lands. And once inside the fenced area Anu could only drift along the boarder in hope. She followed a passing scent that reminded her of him, but she was sure that she might not find him at all and too meek to call for him Anu was destined to travel in circles till dusk. She wondered if there was a pack center, and if she could leave it for him, for the longer she held the potted plant, the more foolish she felt doing so. What male would want a flower?
- Hemming - 07-17-2009
Hemming wandered through Serena Reserve rather aimlessly, caught up in a conversation about the incredible diversity of wildflower species with his Spirit Guide, Dagrun. She was sitting on his head, as usual, her little tawny wings folded about her side. She had just finished extolling the virtues of coltsfoot, which was allegedly capable of curing a cough, when Hemming spotted a light colored figure in the distance. He recognized her almost immediately, and started walking faster towards her before breaking out into a run. His feet fell lightly on the grass, but apparently the up and down movement was too much for Dagrun; she lifted herself up into the air and simply flew above him with a graceful ease.
"Anu!" he called out as he grew closer, slowing down to a stop beside her with a great grin on his face. The wolf took a moment to catch his breath, putting his hands on his sides and bending at the torso briefly. His amber eyes were bright and smiling, and flickered across his friend. The moment he straightened himself out, Dagrun lighted on the top of his head, beady eyes inspecting the female that was now before them. Grinning widely, he greeted her with a "Hi!" After a moment, he shifted his attention to the thing that she was holding. Tipping his head to the side, he enquired, "What's that? It's pretty."
- Anu - 07-18-2009
They are so funny!
Looking up Anu noticed something in the distance. A moving figure that was headed towards her. For a moment she was nervous, but as the optime form came closer Anu found that it was indeed the wolf she searched for. A smiled came to her face, and she greeted him as he approached with a simple, “Hi” . Anu watched as the male caught his breath, holding back a laugh as he slumped to find it. “I wasn’t sure I would find you” The woman admitted, her eye catching the creature that sat lightly on the other’s head. The small brown bird seemed to look at her with the same curiosity as Hemming. He asked about what she held, and Anu returned her gaze back to his face.
“Well, this is a day lily, from my garden. It’s a gift.” she said with a soft smile on her face. Handing the pot to the male she began to clarify “For you. For the kite” She hoped he would like it. - Hemming - 07-18-2009
What she said next surprised him, and he looked up with his mouth partly open and his eyes wide. "Really? For me? And you grew this?" After a few moments, the stupefied look on his face turned to an astonished grin. This little beauty, raised by Anu herself, was coming to live with him. Hemming looked back to it, smiling. It must have taken a lot of effort, and a lot of patience, to grow such a beautiful flower. Additionally, it had then been placed into a little pot. The male's heart swelled with a very warm feeling, and he looked back to Anu before saying, with awe in his voice, "Thank you."
After a few more seconds of staring at the beautiful plant, a flicker of doubt crossed his mind and he furrowed his eyebrows and stood up straight. "But I don't know how to take care of it," he said gently. A fear that had taken root, but that he did not voice, was, What if it dies? The male would feel guilty beyond belief. A gift of a living thing was one of the most powerful gifts, because it displayed trust and confidence in the receiver. Hemming never wanted to betray that trust.
- Anu - 07-18-2009
“Yeah, It came form my garden.” His smile made her want to do nothing more the smile herself. To some it might seem like a big deal. So what, it was just a flower. But to Anu it was more then that, it was time and care, sweat and tears. She loved that he could genuinely appreciate that. “Your welcome.”, she spoke with a happy grin while they both looked at the flower together.
His voice made her look at him again, but there was a much different look on his face. She lost her happy look when he did, but as she understood his concerns Anu brightened. “I wouldn't leave her with you unless I gave you the knowledge to care for her… it. Anu corrected herself at the end of her statement. Not many called their plants by a gender. “Its not hard, but do you have a place you would like it to go?” Anu looked around, wondering if he lived near by or if he just roamed and slept where ever he fell. - Hemming - 07-18-2009
"Oh, I'm always looking for you!" he laughed. Hemming was still amazed that the something so beautiful was capable of growing right up out of the earth, and that Anu had the talent to make it do so. It was implied that she had many other flowers, too, still left at home in her garden. He hoped that this pretty yellow one wouldn't be lonely, away from all the others, and he would certainly try to keep it company.
His brows unfurrowed when the female assured him that she would teach him how to take care of the flower. The smile that had been missing for the few seconds of doubt reappeared, and he listened to her carefully. Hemming lived in a good-sized den just a few minutes' walk away, and since it was a cave and didn't get much light inside, the flower could go near its entrance. The wolf would put up a little fence of some sort around it, just to make sure it wasn't accidentally stepped on, or picked by someone who didn't realize it was perfectly happy in the ground. Ember, when she had shown him where her den was and helped him to choose his own, had mentioned that Tayui was raising her pups in a den nearby. They were growing older, and likely would know not to harm the flower in any way, but it was always better to be cautious and add a little reminder.
"Yeah," he said, unable to prevent his eyes from flicking back down to the flower again, "I have a place in mind." Grinning, he started to walk back in a direction that was quite different from the one he had come from, as he had been wandering all morning. Raising his eyebrows a little bit and looking sideways to Anu, he asked, "Do you want me to carry her?"
- Anu - 07-18-2009
noticed that his spirit guide does show himself to others... hope its not pp
She followed as he began the journey to where he wanted to plant her. Anu would pick the best place for it, a place where she would receive the right amount of light, and when the rains began again she would not become flooded. Anu had been blessed with the rain that came this season, but it was almost every day that she needed to keep the flowerbeds raised with earth. She handed him the pot, smiling as he spoke of the flower in her proper gender. “She’s all yours” Anu spoke when she placed the lily into his hands.
They walked together and Anu enjoyed the weight that no longer filled her arms. Eyes drifted to her surroundings, taking in the lands for the first real time. It was a beautiful place, having only been passed the fence once. Blue eyes caught the bird that had perched it self on his head once again, and remembered the curious feeling that it had given her. “Who is you friend?” Anu asked, eyes on the little bird. - Hemming - 07-18-2009
As the weight was set in Hemming's hands, he clasped the pot carefully and lifted the lily up to eye-level, smiling at it. "Mm, so lovely," he crooned, almost to the flower herself. It was, as far as he was concerned, a sentient creature that deserved respect and nourishment. He held it back at his waist again, knowing that the longer he held the pot up the higher the risk of tripping and dropping it might be. That would be tragedy beyond comprehension, and must be avoided at all costs.
Anu mentioned the little bird that was sitting happily on her throne of fur, and Hemming explained, "Oh! I'm sorry, I forgot to introduce you... This is my Spirit Guide, Dagrun." He smiled widely, and said, "Dagrun, this is Anu." The wolf often forgot that she was there, now, he was so used to her presence. He would swear that the skin beneath her favourite little spot of fur was less sensitive now, because of the way she gripped it tightly. She had changed him in a few other, less superficial, ways as well.
With a ruffle of her feathers, the little bird cheeped, "Hi!" Dagrun seemed to go from phases of intense chattering to a reticent quiet, and she also seemed to hush a bit around others, as if she didn't want to disturb her wolf friend while he was talking to them.
- Anu - 07-18-2009
Blue eyes watched the sprite of a bird, listening to the male and giving a quick question. “A Spirit Guide?” In all her years Anu had never heard of such a thing. She thought of all the possibilities, wondering if their minds were attached, or if it were their souls. Anu had wanted something like that, when she was young and found attachments with other wolves difficult. But as she grew she found other parts of nature that she was connected to. - Hemming - 07-18-2009
Hemming cradled the flower in his arms as they walked, giving only a warm smile in response to Anu's teasing. It was nice to simply walk with a friend, words flowing between them easily. The fact that the female had sought him out in his pack lands, with a gift, made his heart swell with a happiness he hadn't felt often before coming to AniWaya. The male was starting to find fulfilment in the relationships he made, rather than in the books he read and the things he knew, and they were such wonderful things to draw satisfaction from.
The concept of Spirit Guides was still fuzzy even to the AniWayan, despite having known his for almost a month. He didn't doubt that it was one of those things you could never understand completely. His eyes moved up to the sky after Anu asked, and he tried to form an explanation. "Well... they're souls of animals long past, manifested in some form or another." He struggled to grasp the idea, as it seemed so vaporous. It wasn't necessarily a physical form that these spirits appeared in, as he knew that some Spirit Guides were not visible to other wolves. He felt like anything he could say about them might have an exception. "I guess it's like having a really old friend around, or perhaps a parent, who... guides you and helps you along."
The wolf wasn't an expert on Spirit Guides, and he wasn't an expert on parents either. He had left his pack, which had been so loosely bound that they probably didn't even realize he was gone for a while, and lived largely by himself in the woods. So, perhaps it could be said that the idea of friends was a little foreign to him, as well. Just as he was picking that up, though, he would start to understand Spirit Guides better as well.
- Anu - 07-18-2009
He seemed to struggle with the concept, just as she did. But maybe that was normal. Discussing such a personal thing, as she was beginning to realize, could not be easy. But as he spoke Anu wrapped her mind around the idea, finding it a little magical. She looked at the little bird, wondering how old the little creature’s spirit was. She could not help but wonder what they spoke about, though she knew enough not to ask. That was even more personal that her previous question.
“We all could use a little help sometimes.” Anu agreed. The fey took such guidance from the sun, and its children. She nurtured them, watched them flourish and took their values of peace, patience, silence and beauty to heart. But if she was ever to have the spirit of an animal help her, Anu could not help but wonder. “That something very special.”. Anu commented, looking at his yellow eyes - Hemming - 07-18-2009
It was quite odd that they were walking in the real world. Still, though, there were aspects that seemed so separated from what might be considered every day life. Hemming had never before held nor seen such a bright, beautiful flower, and apparently Anu had never met a Spirit Guide before. That alone must be something completely foreign and strange. Indeed, Dagrun was still quite strange to Hemming himself. The male always wondered about the limits of her age; was it possible that she was around before sentient life existed, even before creatures clumped and became multicellular? The wolf and the bird had not yet had a discussion like this, but as Hemming was starting to become more familiar and more comfortable with her, it was bound to come up.
"Definitely," Hemming said in agreement. If only he had found Dagrun many years ago, he would not have suffered so many long lonely nights. Most days, the wolf had read, or fiddled with other things, but there had been a few where his isolation had tormented him. He tried not to remember them anymore, and certainly being in a tribe pulled his thoughts away from a sometimes dismal past. "I'm still trying to figure her out," he added with a soft smile. Dagrun wiggled her claws a little.
They were getting close to his den, now, and he could see the series of caves in the distance. He lived in one of the furthermost ones, tucked neatly into a short wall of crumbling cliffs. As they walked towards it, he asked, "You have a garden of these at home?" His manner was more subdued than normal, though the shine in his eye betrayed his immense pleasure of the gift and his company. "It's very kind of you to part with one."
- Anu - 07-18-2009
look @ us go!
In the months that lacked frost and snow Anu used the garden as a distraction, a gift that was quiet generous of the tilled soil. With all the other benefits of gardening Anu felt that just something to do was the most important and wonderful that it could give her. It was there when she needed it, all the times when she could hardly think strait or the moments when her heart felt like it would break. The small plot of land was there, alive and dead. In the spring she was given a new canvas to work with, and even in its death come fall the garden provided her with the tools cleanse her soul. Removing what was left of the summer, clearing it all away was like removing all the dead weight that held her down.
She smiled and spoke with a sincere tone, “She seems complicated.” Anu was certain that she would have a hard time connecting with a bird. She could imagine that they would have a flighty personality, moving quickly and never staying on the same topic long. Though, it would be a fun challenge and the knowledge of a creature of flight valuable.
Looking at the landscape that appeared before them Anu noticed the change, and figured that Hemming lived inside one of the caves they approached. Blue eyes danced over the cliffs, lifting her eyes to see the up most part and then drawing it downwards. His question made her ears swivel. Looking back at the male she gave a smile. - Hemming - 07-18-2009
The male had no clue how one would go about obtaining such flowers as the one Anu had given him. He hadn't seen them in the wild before, but that certainly didn't mean they didn't exist. Humans had a fondness for botany, it seemed, and they too raised gardens; perhaps Anu had somehow worked around their demise to make her own garden grow. "Where do you find them?" he asked, hoping she would explain a little more. It seemed like a wonderful thing to do, to protect and nourish a life as it grew, fragile, from the earth. The patience it would require was astounding. Hemming was used to doing things fairly quickly, making things as fast as he could while still attaining a high level of quality. Having this flower around would be a good lesson in patience, and a rewarding one at that.
He stopped at the little entrance to his den and remarked, "Here we are!" He looked around, wondering how much sun the flower would need. "Where should we put her?"
- Anu - 07-19-2009
yay!
She looked at his den, peering curiously inside and then turned to look at the weak sunlight. It was there, and that was all she needed to know. The clouds would not remain forever, so she didn't worry. She guessed it was passed midday, and the sun could still be felt on her face. It was a good place; he would like the warmth in the winter months.
Anu looked at the soil, it was hard where she stood at the entrance of the cave. It was a high traffic area, and not a good place. Blue eyes glanced at the male, “You have good sunlight. Even though its cloudy.” She beckoned him closer. “Stand here, you can feel it.” She watched him, and then moved her thoughts back to the ground. “Here I think,” she said feeling the ground beneath her footpaws. She stood at the side of the entrance, but not right against the rock. The land rose slightly, and was soft.
“The soil here will drain nicely.” The words coming as she kneeled to the ground, waiting for him to bring the pot to the ground. - Hemming - 07-19-2009
He watched as Anu inspected the soil and the level of sunlight, admiring the application of her knowledge. Pleased that he had good sunlight (though he wasn't completely sure if she just meant a good amount, or if there was a special quality of it that he was unaware of), he stepped over and immediately felt it warming his fur. "That is quite nice," he said, "Can I be planted here?" He flashed her with another coy grin and moved out of the way sheepishly as she contemplated the soil quality. After he had said the words, he thought that perhaps they had made it seem as if he wasn't taking it seriously, and immediately adopted a contemplative expression.
Anu made her final verdict, and Hemming placed the pot carefully down beside the chosen land, squatting as he did so and reaching out a hand to feel the soil. Not only would it be a good place for the flower to live, the position was appealing to Hemming. With a grin, he looked up to Anu and concurred, "Okay." He was still in awe of her knowledge, and was eager to learn. "So, should I dig a little hole here?" The wolf didn't have any tools, so he would use his hands. Gardening implements would be something quite useful to make out of wood, if he was able to develop a good design, and he put that down on a mental list of things to experiment with.
- Anu - 07-19-2009
“You’ll need a hole about waist deep.” She joked, watching as he stood and absorbed the sun like one of her tulips. "I'll come back and water you." Hemming was always making some sort of remark, and Anu could not help but laugh at each. He moved towards her, placed the pot down gently and they both looked at the ground. It felt odd to be planting with another wolf, it being such a solitary hobby.
“I’ll help. It needs to be just a bit bigger then the pot.” Anu commented. Hands returned to their familiar environment, claws and fingers digging the soil away. - Hemming - 07-19-2009
Hemming laughed, an elated laugh that bordered on a giggle, when Anu joked back. The moroseness that had gripped him only a few moments ago seemed to be completely gone, and he felt as if his insides were trembling with an excited energy. Unable to keep it in, and not really wanting to anyway, he grinned wildly. The gift had raised his spirits even higher into the sky than they usually were, and now he was learning how to plant it and take care of it. On top of all of that, it was Anu that had done the giving, and Anu that was doing the teaching. She was certainly one of Hemming's most cherished friends, and her presence alone would have been enough to lift his mood all the way to outer space.
"Okay," he said softly as her hands, too, moved to the soil. He pulled away soft chunks of it and pressed his fingers further into the earth. It was something that Hemming had never really done, but it was, strangely, a very nice feeling. In that instant, though he couldn't really explain how or why, he felt connected to the earth, not just in the little spot outside his den, but everywhere. Unlike the somewhat bleak thoughts of the eternal spirit that was Dagrun, this feeling was immensely satisfying, one that made him feel more alive and extremely happy to be so. As they dug, the grin remained on his face and the glimmer stayed in his eye. The flower would be happy in her new home, carefully selected by the gardener, and Hemming would be immensely happy to have her there. Seeing her when he woke up in the morning would not only provide Hemming with a beautiful sight, but also a beautiful memory of a rather perfect day.
- Anu - 07-19-2009
i start work up again tomorrow, so i might be slow this coming week. just wanted to let you know. xD
Anu could think that her gift could have been more welcomed and appreciated any more then Hemming did. When once she had been worried, Anu knew for certain that he liked his gift. She enjoyed being here, visiting his home and knowing where he lived. There was a warm satisfaction that she felt knowing that he was happy living in AniWaya, happy with his Spirit Guide, and now happy with his lily. Anu would have never guessed that a dieing jelly fish would bring to wolves together in such a friendship.
They dug together, moving the soil up and to the side. Both of the wore smiles, and Anu thought it would be interesting to see the two grown wolves enjoying digging so much. What if someone walked by, saw them? She figured that they would laugh, seeing the grins on their faces. Anu would laugh with them, not caring enough to feel foolish.
“Here we go.” She piped, kneeling backwards and reaching for the pot. Anu moved it to sit beside the freshly dug hole. Blue eyes looked to the male, a grin on her face. “Now we take the flower out, first digging it out of the pot a little.” She spoke as she broke the soil up inside the pot, “And then, by the base of the stem easily pull it out.” Anu placed her hands on the pot to steady it, waiting for him to pull out the flower.
“Then in the ground it goes.” - Hemming - 07-19-2009
Hemming reflected the grin she cast him, and he looked with concentration to the base of the stem as she explained. As the alabaster female held the pot firmly, the male reached his large hands in tentatively, the fingers of his left hand gripping the flower at the lowest place that he could. He pulled it up gently, and a couple times, lowered it down again, feeling as if he was not grasping it in a way that would preserve its perfection. On the third time, having developed an understanding of how the weight would feel, he felt his grip was good and lifted it all the way out of the pot, little clumps of dirt dropping from its spindly roots. As soon as it was possible, he placed his palm on the bottom of what had been in the pot to stabilize it, supporting it gently as it made its trip to the ground.
He placed it in the hole gently, a smile stretched across his face and his eyes narrowed slightly with intent. His hands were pulled away tentatively, and when they were completely free he looked back up to Anu, the smile widening enough for his teeth to shine through. He felt a sense of accomplishment, having learned how to do this. And, of course, the flower was free to spread her roots, unbound by the clay walls of the pot.
|
