- Naniko D'Angelo - 07-29-2009 [html] http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/ ... itbann.jpg); background-position: top center; background-repeat: no-repeat;"> I edited this so that Naniko's unshifted. She sniffed at the wrapper a little then sneezed, sending dust flying in different directions. She'd found a small clothing store the day before and was now trying to locate it again, searching through rows of dilapidated buildings. Most of the shops had windows broken in and debris from the outside world littering their floors, but the shop that she was looking for would be relatively clean. Naniko was temporarily taking claim of the shop, having found that its windows were unbroken and that its door had a good lock on it. She had been wanting to move to a different part of the city to live for a week now, looking for an area that was unfamiliar to her. The unfamiliar places were the best for her right now; they had none of the drugs that she was fighting against. Or if they did, the once-alpha didn't know where they were. She had to avoid all of her old hot-spots. She carried a bucket of red paint in her mouth by its handle, paint that she would use to mark the front of the building so that she would be able to find it easier the next time. She would throw some up on the street sign, too, so that she could find that too. There were so many buildings and structures in Halifax...she needed a way to be able to distingush her place from all others. She was keeping a few things in storage there at the clothing store, some food and other items that she'd found on her stay in the city. Books, too. Right now she was beginning to get a little hungry. Naniko hadn't been hungry all morning; she had tried to eat, but it had come right back up. Maybe she had the flu or something. She didn't feel sick now, though, which was odd. Just in the morning times. She approached the street that her little shop was on and worked the lid off of the paint can, sloshing a bit of it up at the road sign. She would return to Crimson Dreams eventually...but for now this was her home. - Kaena Lykoi - 07-29-2009 [html]
- Naniko D'Angelo - 07-31-2009 [html] http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/ ... itbann.jpg); background-position: top center; background-repeat: no-repeat;"> ooc: She doesn't want to threaten their lives...but smokes sometimes oO She is unedumacated. There was only one drug that she was sampling nowadays, old human tobacco sticks. She had read up on these--you had to light them to get them to work, so she didn't see them as being any threat to an inquisitive pup. Not that she would live in the mansion when she returned to the packlands. She wasn't sure what part of the lands she would reside in--just within the borders? Near the lake? She could build herself a house; the woman was strong, and perhaps Ehno would assist her with the labor to make it go faster. The large wolf padded toward her knit sanctuary, bucket still in her teeth. She dumped the rest of the paint in front of the shop, putting her paws in it and lifting them to place stamps on its display window and painted front. Hopefully these markings, along with her scent, would keep intruders out. She hoped that the locked door would also be a deterrent. Naniko did like it when her old packmembers came to see her, but there were also times where she just wanted time to herself. She lifted one paw again after dipping it into the paint, writing "NANIKO" out on the window in English. There, perfect. The snow-colored female winced as a light cramp ran through her mid-section. She had been feeling really crappy lately, for at least the last week or so. Ever since she and Ehno had been together. It was puzzling...but she wasn't sure if she could even be pregnant right now. She had thought that the drugs had messed her body up along with her mind. But maybe it was possible. The woman knew enough not to shift if she had even an inkling that she might be...she wouldn't threaten the lives of the unborn ones. She stood up, the fumes from the paint making her feel a little dizzy, and took a few steps backwards. The house looked fine--now she could go inside and light up a few of her tobacco sticks. - Kaena Lykoi - 07-31-2009 [html]
- Naniko D'Angelo - 08-03-2009 [html] There weren't many who could admit to knowing the stress and amount of work it took to be a leader. She had once been a lowly pack wolf living back in Clouded Tears, working her way up the ranks while taking care of her younger, very mischievous brother Davinci. If she chose to rejoined the pack from which she had come, Crimson Dreams, she would have to start all over again from the very bottom. It was likely that she wouldn't be able to advance up in the ranks at all, with Savina not trusting her. Was it really worth going back there at all? If she was indeed pregnant she didn't want her pups to be scorned or disliked because of what she had done. That wasn't fair at all. She was stretching up for the handle of the door when she heard something behind her, someone approaching. She turned slowly, looking back just as her name was said. How had this creature learned her name? She frowned for a moment, confused, then followed Kaena's gaze to the writing on the window. Oh yeah. She'd written it for all to see. "Yeah. I'm Naniko. I live here, in the city. But...you don't, do you?" She could smell a mixture of scents on the traveling coyote, but Inferni's smell was the strongest. She had no qualms with that clan; they had always left Crimson Dreams alone, and Crimson Dreams had never caused any trouble for them in return. "You've got a lot of scars." She would have wondered if Inferni had gotten into a fight with Phoenix Valley, from the amount of wounds on this female...but Kaena's scars looked old, with the exception of the wound on her shoulder. "Did you see a healer for that? It looks good..but I didn't know Inferni had any healers." She inquired. "If the shoulder ever bothers you, I have some herbs for pain inside. Just don't get addicted to them." She said with a wry smile. - Kaena Lykoi - 08-05-2009 [html]
- Naniko D'Angelo - 08-06-2009 [html] She stretched her paws up to touch the door handle, swinging the door open to allow them access. She had always been an easily-trusting one...perhaps that had been part of her downfall. She had become friends with Sabeen, who had encouraged her use of the materials that had directly caused her expulsion from Crimson Dreams. But then, some would argue that it was her own choice to branch off of cocaine and onto heroin and other, more addicting substances. It was hard to admit that some of it was her own fault. She didn't want it to be her fault. When the coyote turned her head Naniko could see that her whole other eye was missing--how could something like that happen? She had seen a few with scars over their eyes, yes, but not many who were missing their eye. Had infection taken it, or had it been removed at the same time as the injury had happened? She was curious about it but did not ask yet, unsure if she would be given that type of information just yet. The answer to her question made the location of where the other woman lived quite obvious; if she was a Lykoi, then she lived in Inferni. Her explanation about not seeing a healer and about the ocean held information that was all-new to Naniko. She had never considered using the ocean as a healing tool, having lived in mainly landlocked packs. It was a really good idea for those packs who lived on the coast. "I'd never heard of that before, of using the ocean. I use herbs from the hills, plains, and forests." The woman's last response brought a smile to her lips and she held the door open so that Kaena might enter. As beaten-up as Kaena looked...if Naniko was really pregnant then she wouldn't risk the lives of her unborn pups by fighting. She'd lost one litter by falling down the stairs a year or so earlier, and she knew to be careful now. The shop had a rustic sort of charm to it, the central theme of the place being farming and all-weather clothing. There were small models of different farm equipment and pictures of bovines and horses printed onto the walls, the floor covered by a very thin carpet. She led her toward one of the back rooms, a room locked away from the rest of the shop. She had Iskata's old herb bag here along with a mattress that she'd found while going through a different shop. She pulled on the bag with her teeth, rolling a few jars out with her nose. "How did you come to live in Inferni? I was a member of the Crimson Dreams pack...but live as a loner, now. In the old lands I lived in Clouded Tears, if you were around back then." - Kaena Lykoi - 08-07-2009 [html]
thanks to james for the header image - Naniko D'Angelo - 08-10-2009 [html] There weren't too many around who knew things about the old lands. She was very interested in speaking with someone who remembered the past; some days Naniko wondered if those days were nothing but a dream, or a memory that she would later forget about, like it never happened. She was from Chimera, originally, the last litter of pups born there before the pack combined with Syemv to become Aremys. Her past mate Conri, the father of Mati, Brooklyn, Salem, and Haven, had been from Aremys. She had spent two years of her life over across the mountains, but the memories of those days were fading as time went on. She was no threat to this female and continued to act in a relaxed manner. This was her home and she wouldn't like to lose it, but there were more shops in this city. That would be the only thing that she thought might cause a confrontation, if someone wanted the shop that she was living in. Her little patch of ground. It had been a long time since the last time Naniko had been able to call herself a loner, and she was getting used to moving quickly from one place to another. She would put on a defensive show if anyone came to try and take the place, but it was only a temporary home to her anyway. "Yeah. We wouldn't want that" She had survived this long, Kaena had. It would be ironic if she ate a plant and it killed her. The ceilings in the back area were slightly lower, and cobwebs and spiderwebs lined every crack and corner. If she had been standing in her optime form, her ears might have brushed the dirty surfaces; she was a large wolf to begin with and stood taller than almost everyone she knew when she was in her two-legged form. It wasn't something that often came to use, though, with the outlook of a pacifist and her generally friendly attitude. She looked away as the other shifted, jade eyes fixing on the jar that she had rolled out of her bag instead. She felt uneasy having someone watching her while she shifted sometimes, watching that intimate change, and didn't want to put any unnecessary strain on the situation if the other felt the same. "It's this one here. I've got to get some new herbs anyway, once I get to a more wooded area...and I have many jars back in Crimson Dreams that my friend could get for me if I need them. You can take the jar, if you'd like. Put three pinches of it in with a cup of boiling water and stir it. You can either drink it or soak a cloth in it and put the cloth over the wound. If you drink it, it will help you avoid infection or illnesses" The instructions were simple enough, and she pushed the jar toward the other with her nose. "If you ever want to make some for yourself, too, some more powder...this one is really easy. Willow trees are easy to identify, with their long hanging branches. It's their soft inner bark that you want to get at...with a knife, or a spade or something sharp. You dry it, then grind it up into powder." It turned out that Kaena had known of Clouded Tears. Naniko couldn't guess the age of the coyote, but she had been a part of Inferni's founding? She wasn't sure how old Inferni was, either. "I did know him, almost since birth. He was a part of the family...my mother Iskata's cousin, I believe. But I'm not related to him by blood...just through adoption. I never did take my mother's last name when she adopted me--I guess I thought the other D'angelos would come back someday, and I'd have some real family ties. But I suppose not." It was probably odd of her to be speaking to a stranger about her old wishes and whims, feelings that she'd had for a while about the rest of her estranged family. But she did feel a small tie to the scarred gray coyote in front of her. Kaena was from the old lands, and knew how it was. "Mother argued with Laruku to let me stay. But eventually I think the old man came to like me--when I cared for my younger brother Davinci, after Iskata left, he often left us packages of meat or came by to make sure that we were okay on some of the harsher nights. When the fires came I was Laruku's Alsterin--just below the leadership ranks." She explained. Naniko was a born and raised pack wolf...she would probably always be one. If she could have stayed in Crimson Dreams she would have. "I don't dislike pack life...I was just forced to take a break from it to get some things back on track with myself. I'll be having pups in a month or so...they'll need a good pack to grow up in. Good protection." - Kaena Lykoi - 08-11-2009 [html] The silvery hybrid was a creature of the past. Kaena had been alive a very long time, and rattled and shaky as her psyche was, she had an excellent memory. There was not a lot the monochrome canine had forgotten in her many years, though there were naturally the places in her head where her consciousness had become less stable and she was more prone to blackouts and holes in her memory. Even still, with age these periods had decreased in frequency. The worst she'd had it lately had been that month and a half after Eris had left her behind—but even then, that could be partially attributed to her injury. The hybrid woman had slept most of those weeks away, subsisting on the mice until she hunted them into extinction, but by then she was well enough to fish. Kaena was surprised as Naniko began to speak at length about the herb and its use, even teaching her how to procure and create more of it when this supply ran out. That shock showed on her face for a moment, and then it was replaced with genuine gratitude, spread across her wickedly scarred features warmly, lighting her face even through that mess of raw tissue. "Wow," she said, though there was certainly not a hint of sarcasm in the word as she'd used it so many times before. Kaena was absolutely bowled over by the wolf's generosity. "I... Thank you," she said abrubtly, now certain she would repay this wolf somehow. She picked up the jar and opened it up, sniffing it. It was not terribly unpleasant, though it carried some foreign twinge to it. Kae was certain that would be its aftertaste. "I will remember this," the grizzled woman said almost solemnly, speaking of the great favor the pale canine had just done her. The woman was surprised further when the younger canine began speaking at length, mentioning several names which struck familiar chords within her. She clearly recalled Iskata Sadira, though she had been completely unaware that Laruku was her cousin. D'Angelo was even more familiar, and the look on the woman's face shifted from simply curious to intensely interested. "You're a D'Angelo? As in, Misery D'Angelo?" she almost demanded. Kaena knew the sable woman was the widow of Damian, and if this pale wolf before her was the child of that woman, there was a slim chance she held a relation to Ahren and her children, as well. The hybrid woman peered at her closely, trying to determine her age. She might have been four; Ahren would have been four, almost five, if she remembered correctly. There was a possibility Damian might have had more children after his tawny son. Maybe. The name DaVinci almost curled the woman's lip, but she supressed it. There was no need to cause strife here by mentioning her recent altercation with the gray hybrid. But there was softness on her face; she recalled that Laruku had done much the same for her when she'd bore his children, though she had strangely felt that he had never wanted them. Certainly not with her—that was unexpected, at best. She sighed. "I am the mother of his children," she said softly. There was not much else she would say aloud about him—truth be told she did not know him. She had known his other side intimately, but there were few words spoken often between the two hybrid canines when Laruku was himself. There was some kind of stiff indifference, though Kaena knew he had been a good man at heart to keep dedication to the children he deeply resented in all likelihood. "He did the same for us when they were young," she added after a long moment, an almost bitter smile gracing her features for a moment. The hybrid was surprised when the pale wolf mentioned pregnancy. Her golden eye regarded the loner again, and she saw it finally, the slightest bulge in her stomach. Though it normally did not please her that wolves were reproducing, this canine was different. She had been extremely kind to Kaena, and the hybrid woman quelled her usual dislike of the idea and grinned. "Are they your first? I am sure you will raise kind and strong children," the hybrid said. She was being genuine there; the hybrid did not doubt for a moment that the pallid woman before her was a good mother. - Naniko D'Angelo - 08-12-2009 [html] She couldn't help the way that she felt about herbs and healing. Iskata had exposed her to such things at a young age, the art of healing and other virtues such as patience and trust. If she would have continued to live in Chimera with Physe, her other father, she might not have learned those things. Physe had been a wonderful wolf, even up to the day that he had died...but he'd had a pack of his own to run after Ahren left and not enough time to spend with a little, hearbroken pup who missed her mommy. The girl had wandered from him to look for her parents, gone to the top of one of the elevated cliffs inside one of the neutral territories to howl for them, when she had fallen. That was when Iskata had discovered her. She'd had a broken leg and a fuzzy memory--but ever since that day, the scarred, bold Sadira woman had been Mother to her. That was when her life had really started. She'd met Conri, Iskata had given birth to Davinci and Magdalena, then disappeared to look for the little white girl when she had disappeared into the ocean. Naniko started to raise the young Davinci on her own with the help of Laruku and Conri too, and Conri had come to live with her in Clouded Tears to help her. Over time they had come mates. Iskata returned and started a new family in Storm with Phoenix and had another litter...Davinci left, and Conri was kidnapped. Nothing had been the same after the kidnapping of Conri; he'd always been a little bit off since then. She had tried not to notice it, glad to have her mate and childhood friend back, but hadn't been very happy in the mateship. The fires had come after that, and the forming of she and Conri's star-pack, Twilight Vale. All of that had ended more quickly than expected; with the events that unfolded, the rape and arguments...Naniko had taken the pack herself alongside her best friend Savina, and renamed it Crimson Dreams. "It's no problem. It's one of the easiest things to make and grind. Use a flat rock to crush it and push the rock around in circles to grind it up really good into powder." One final instruction was all that was needed--she thought that she had given the other all of the information that she knew about Willow Bark. She came farther out from her thoughts as their conversation continued and she answered with a nod. She could still remember Misery. Her memories had begun to come back around a year after her adoption. Her great-aunt had been ordered to watch Naniko and her younger sister Pontiac a few times, especially during pack hunts. "She was my great-aunt. My grandmother's sister." Her family tree was one thing that she did know about, thankfully. "I have another relative in Phoenix Valley...she's got to be an adult by now. Addison D'angelo. She's Misery's grand-daughter...she's the child of Cerulean D'angelo and Dierdre Rhiannon." A definite mix of family trees there. She was surprised to learn that Kaena had bore Laruku's children--she had seen them once or twice, a few of them...but she wouldn't have connected the two. Naniko was three years old, herself, but she couldn't remember how old Laruku's kids had looked to be. It felt like a long time had passed since she had seen them...and back then she hadn't really been paying much attention to what the leader did, being so preoccupied with keeping her own life stable and on track. She simply nodded, unsure of what to say. It was good that Laruku had been good to his children and Kaena. But they must not have been too close...or mates, even, because she had never met the coyote woman before this point. Not that she could remember, anyway. A smile and a shake of her head came before her response to the next question. This would be her third litter, the first being still-born and the second scattered throughout the lands, living their own lives. "This will be my third. It's one of the wonderful things about live, motherhood. But at the same time it's full of so many trials and hardships that some days it would seem easier to forget that you ever had children. My first litter were still-born..but my second lived. I have a son in the Cour des Miracles and two daughters in Crimson Dreams. My last son, Salem, left with his father Conri a few months ago. They tied Conri to some...murder, so I do worry about Salem. But I don't think that he would hurt his own flesh and blood. He's a bit misunderstood, Conri is..he went through a lot while we were mates." She didn't know if the rumors about the murder were even true; she had tried not to get involved in it. "How many children do you have altogether? Did some of yours leave as well?" - Kaena Lykoi - 08-12-2009 [html]
thanks to james for the header image - Naniko D'Angelo - 08-13-2009 [html] It was interesting to listen to what Kaena had to say; Naniko had never met someone like her. She seemed like she'd really lived....someone who she could look up to, a being with much more experience than herself. Kaena didn't seem old to her, with her young, vibrant personality, either. She looked like someone Naniko could relate to and get along with. The white woman had changed over the years, and had become a more trusting and open type. "Maybe someday you'll find that you have knowlege that will help me out" She said in response. She was curious to find out if Kaena would use the knowlege about the willow bark. Jade eyes looked carefully at the mark on the coyote's chest. She'd never seen a tattoo like that, or many creatures who had tattoos at all. "I've never met the rest of my family, except Addison. My father came back once after he abandoned me, but I've never seen him since. I'm three years old, now. I suppose they're all out there somewhere, though. I'll keep my own line going here" She had kept the D'angelo name as rememberance of who her true, blood family was, and she would try and educate her new children about their family name when the time came and they were old enough. She discovered that this wolf had known of Conri. The male was gone now, having taken off with Salem, and she wasn't sure if she would see him or her son again. It was Salem's choice to go, though, and she couldn't blame Conri. When the lady described her own family Naniko's eyebrows raised. That had to have been quite a few litters--Naniko had only had four that survived from her second litter...and was expecting that she would have around the same amount. Did that mean that Kaena had given birth to four litters? Maybe more or maybe less than that, depending on the amount of pups in each one. "I do remember Ahren. He was the leader while I was there, but left with the others...didn't he? Led them, even...I don't quite remember. I was very young. But I've met Gabriel--he seems alright. I've never had a problem with him, really. I'm not much of a fighter." - Kaena Lykoi - 08-15-2009 [html]
- Naniko D'Angelo - 08-15-2009 [html] "I don't really need anything...just for my pups to be safe and to have a nice place to live." She started, grinning. With that many children, this coyote would know that feeling. She had to make absolutely sure that there were no dangers...or very, very few dangers in whatever pack she lived in. So living with Savina and Anu in Crimson Dreams didn't look like a good idea. Naniko was young, only three years old; she hadn't even reached middle age yet. She still had many years to have puppies if she chose, but this litter was very precious to her. After losing her first, she had realized how easily they could be taken away from her. A simple fall, a slip...she had to be careful now. She was very curious about the tattoos, though, how much they did hurt. "It's really interesting...can they come in different colors? And was it terribly painful? She leaned forward a little to take a better look at the mark the woman bore. "And that's ok, about Aunt Misery. I didn't know her too well...and my memories of her will fade with time unless she returns." But it had been this long--surely the dark female had moved on, like so many others. "I'll try to stay on Inferni's good side, too...I can't really bug them way out here, in the city. Heh. I've marked this house with my paint, so hopefully no one will come in while I'm here either. Without knocking or being invited, anyway. I don't have much here, though, so it's not much to lose. I thought about painting the whole outside red, but I think it's good just having my name there. I'm not sure if the fumes are too good for me to breathe in." She shrugged, looking to the front of the building. Then, remembering why she had planned on going inside to begin with, she turned back toward her bag. The pack of tobacco sticks fell out after a good shake. - Kaena Lykoi - 08-19-2009 [html]
- Naniko D'Angelo - 08-28-2009 [html] "I'd like to get out of the city eventually. In a few weeks, maybe. I need to talk to some people before I do...I want to see if I'll be able to return home or not. A lot happened in that pack...it doesn't feel like much of a home to me any more. I'll move on to someplace else." She'd once been a very pack oriented wolf. She would probably fall into the same lifestyle that she'd had back in Crimson Dreams in whichever pack she joined next. As long as that pack did not have Savina or Anu in it, then it would make a good home for her. The information on tattoos was useful; now if she ever saw someone else with one, she would be able to strike up a conversation, maybe speak of the tattoo'd coyote that she had met once in the city. She would get one for herself, someday, once she thought of the proper symbol. "I didn't know." She said, staring at the little pack of sticks. "You want them? I don't want them, then. Or the paint. If you could find any use for either of them...do you know anyone who would use these things?" - Kaena Lykoi - 08-28-2009 [html]

- Kaena Lykoi - 08-31-2009 [html] http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/ ... enaban.jpg); background-position: bottom center; background-repeat: no-repeat;"> Table thanks to Erin! The coyote smirked at the mention of Phoenix Valley. It was one of those places she was highly unlikely to go—not unless she had a damn good reason. Gabriel had warned her that tensions between the coyotes and that particular pack were high, but recently there had been little trouble that she had known. Inferni had been preoccupied with the trespasser wolf for some time now; he seemed to be the bigger priority in everyone's mind. Kaena had a bigger reason to avoid Phoenix Valley—the white wolf she'd chased off of clan territory had been a member of the Valley pack, and certainly someone would be seeking her blood. Perhaps there would not be immediate reaction for what she'd done, but it would come, in due time. It wasn't as if she was unprovoked in her attack, anyway—the pallid wolf had been clearly on Inferni's territory, and trespassers were not treated kindly. Repeat offenders were lucky to walk away with their lives, and Kae supposed in that respect she might have saved Xeris a hell of a lot of trouble. The coyote woman realized another piece of humor, and her grin broadened, even as she tucked the cigarettes into her pack. She'd have to carry the paint by hand, but it was worth the trouble. "My firstborn's probably got two years or more on you," she said, shaking her head. She felt old, though not so much physically. There were few creatures which had lifespans equal to her own—she had not met one older than herself in some years. It was difficult to outrank her in age now especially. "I hope you remain more respectful of borders than some of your future packmates," she said darkly. The coyote was a creature of vengeance, and so was her clan—for the most part, anyway. She felt no remorse; in her mind the wolf was clearly in the wrong, lost or not. If she had been smart enough to run on first contact with Kaena, who had clearly warned the white wolf where she walked was claimed territory, as if the skulls hanging off of their borders and the strong smell of coyote didn't scream that loudly enough. There would have been no problems at all as far as Kaena was concerned so long as the wolves stayed away. The coyote woman was not keen on murdered clanmates, and it could just as easily be one of her grandchildren the next time a wolf crossed their borders. Two of her own children had been snatched away from her in such a manner. "I like you, and on top of that I owe you now. I don't hold a grudge with the pack you've chosen, but perhaps it would be in my best interest to avoid Phoenix Valley, at least for a while anyway. Maybe we could keep our friendship to the neutral lands," the ashen hybrid added. She wouldn't want to run into Xeris or any of her friends, and neither would she want to get Naniko in trouble for bringing a coyote onto their lands. |
