- Anselm de le Poer - 08-15-2009
I'm assuming this takes place after your thread with Haku, since it was started later. If not, let me know and I'll change it. [:
@#$%&Anselm had been cutting through a slight depression in the land when the enthusiastic bark caught his attention. Rerouteing immediately, he briskly ascended the small knoll and peered down at the young girl prancing merrily about the borders down below. Initially his tail swung in hopeful recognition; could it be Talitha had come home? But nay, something didn't add up. The markings on her face were different, the scent was off, and she was too young. His tail's movements quickly dampened until the appendage was still as he considered the situation further. Her scent was largely neutral and even now, he was tempted to think her one of his cousin's children. But no, that didn't make sense either. This girl was maybe half as old as Ezekiel and Talitha, and it wouldn't have made sense for Gabriel to go off impregnating somebody else shortly after his litter had been born. Anselm was the one who blew through partners like most blew through meals; Gabriel was more of a family man than that. Furthermore, her muzzle was broad (at least for a female's) and her ears too proportionate; she didn't seem to be part coyote.
@#$%&Whoever she was, he didn't know what to make of her. As usual in these situations, he assumed the worst (how else could he be prepared for anything?). Advancing silently down the hill, his body language alone spoke volumes. His tail had raised, his gaze was directed straight at hers, and the long fur of his mane stood on end. As he drew nearer, details emerged from the blur of the big picture. Though he could have easily overlooked the faint scent of Dahlia that scarcely clung to her coat, he could never forget Haku's wretched stench that hung in the air around her like some kind of awful perfume. What game is this now? he wondered, eyes narrowing as his mind raced with a dozen fictional schemes Haku could have concocted. His paranoia lead him to jump to funny conclusions, sometimes; maybe that blue-eyed bastard had sent the lone male who desecrated their borders and now he was sending an unassuming spy! @#$%&"State your name and business," he demanded simply, deep voice sounding loud and clear to make it obvious he was in no mood for nonsense. She was young, but she was old enough to know better--or so he hoped, anyway. - Samantha Zee - 08-16-2009
@#$%&Anselm watched, initially amused by her clueless display. She looked this way and that--every which way but directly at him. Snorting softly to himself, he remained standing and his gaze roved over her several more times for verification purposes: it seemed like most of his initial impressions were correct. She flashed a convincing smile and offered a quick explanation, then asked what he found to be a ridiculous question. Wet behind the ears, was she? Her behaviour was exceedingly childish, even for a girl her age, and this rubbed him the wrong way. Obviously anyone who was lingering in Inferni's backyard without a purpose or contact within the clan was doing something wrong, and she had failed to comprehend he was the one asking questions here, not her.
@#$%&The red-eyed male still was uncertain about the girl and he kept a safe distance. "This clan is affiliated with coyotes," he said flatly after a pause. They had very little dog in them--it was more or less freak chance that Gabriel and his children resembled German Shepherds at all. Gabriel's father was pure wolf and Kaena was predominantly coyote. Somehow those genes had persisted and surfaced in those far removed generations, but for the most part, the nameless girl was just in the wrong spot. Eight of their fourteen had no dog at all; of the other six, the traits only really showed in a couple. "If you're looking for dogs you need to head in the exact opposite direction," he continued, hoping she'd make this easy for both of them and just... shoo. @#$%&"Cour des Miracles. They're in the south and lead by a dog with several other hybrids like yourself in the ranks." Well, he only knew of one--Ruri--but he didn't mind embellishing a bit if it meant she would go away sooner. - Samantha Zee - 08-17-2009
@#$%&It would be interesting to see how things may have been different if she were maybe a year or a year and a half older. The girl wasn't bad looking, but Anselm was seemingly one of the few with standards: he had no desire to bed with children. Any under a year of age were puppies; any between one and two were teenagers. Anselm wanted nothing of the drama that would come from sleeping with either age group--he wanted women that were mature enough to recognise the fleeting nature of his encounters and he wanted them to bring some more experience to the table.
@#$%&As things stood, however, he simply considered her the same as any other youth--more specifically, the same as any other youth that was not a part of Inferni or his immediate family: annoying. The ceaseless giggling was beginning to wear on his nerves, though his stony expression was unyielding. She spoke next and he snorted softly, incredulously--was her head that far up her own arse? While dogs technically were a subspecies of wolf, they'd grown soft and (in his mind) lesser than the wild wolves under the influence of man. Though the dogs today were several generations removed from their tender-footed ancestors, Anselm thought it was foolish to deny their differences. It didn't mean they weren't equal now--if the dogs had survived this long, they deserved as much credit as the next wolf. Separate but equal, much as Inferni was from the rest of the packs... @#$%&She stood, and he sought to use this voluntary momentum of hers to carry her briskly away from Inferni territory. "Guess so," his low voice rumbled. "That being the case, if you require an escort away from here we can go now. Otherwise, good luck finding what you're looking for elsewhere." Whatever that was, seeing as she apparently didn't believe in hybrids. Either way, his message was quite clear: it was time for her to leave. Anselm didn't really question her intentions any more (as he had no reason to think otherwise), but that didn't make the antisocial, territorial hybrid want to deal with her any less. He was not Haku's babysitter. |
