Cambibaby. 300+ The Trenches, just like her mood, were quite somber for a late November morning. It was approximatively nine o'clock, a time when the sun should've at least been showing signs of existence. And thus far, such a thing seemed practically inconceivable. Under normal circumstances, this would've disturbed the golden-hued female. But a few clouds, no matter how dark and ominous, were nothing compared to the heap of problems that would surely befall her within the next few days. She hadn't strayed this far south in quite some time. Crimson Dreams was as far as she normally went, although it had been a little while since she'd visited the Commander. Alexey had toyed with the idea, weighing the pros and cons of confiding in her italian friend. Savina was a kindred soul, a lady worthy of everyone's trust. Many times before, the Koios femme had gone to her for help. But this time, things weren't as simple. Although Savina wasn't one to judge, Alexey feared that her story was enough to destroy their friendship. Not many people would understand how Dahlia de Mai's very own caregiver had gotten intimate with her protégé. Granted, she hadn't been the one to initiate any kind of physical contact; that's not what made her a monster. The feelings she'd experienced during the act were what made her condemnable. How terribly wrong this was. Honey-hued eyes drifted along with the current below, watching intently as the rolling waves crashed against eroded boulders. It was a long way down, she reckoned. The Acer sat atop the highest cliff, forcing herself to muse over trivial things in hopes of forgetting her dilemma. Being away from him did help, but Lexey wasn't one to run from her problems. Although she had no intention of avoiding this, the Caregiver had every intention of resigning from her co-rank; the first step to redemption. - Cambria Marino - 11-26-2009 [html]

Ilu. 300+ There was something mesmerizing about watching the waves crash onto the cliffs below; it sounded like a melody of sorts, nature's very own version of a drum solo. If she concentrated really hard, Alexey was able to hear the vibration of Mew's piano coming together with the sounds of the sea. What a beautiful song it made. This was a moment she would've wanted to share with Conor; he was dotted with a sensible soul similar to hers. He surely would've appreciated the serenity as much as she did. Wishful thinking, of course. Alexey didn't know what would become of her relationship with the Lilium's son, and such a thing terrified her beyond belief. It took her quite a few moments to understand what (or who) had interfered with her chagrined ballad. The presence of another was not surprising, but the mention of her name was. The Acer turned to face her interlocutor, allowing her eyelids to flutter a few times over her golden-hued orbs. She did not immediately recognize the younger female, not until her gaze found those familiar seafoam beads. "Cambria!" she responded, astonishment overshadowing her tone of voice. A saddened smile tugged at her lips then, indicating exactly what was going on in the back of her mind. She too, had grown up way too fast. Had it been that long since she'd last seen Savina and her children? Her Italian friend's daughter was pretty, no doubt taking after her mother in the looks department. "Look at you!" The Koios femme abandoned her resting place to properly greet the girl, displaying the enormous amount of respect she had for the Commander's family by doing so. Nostalgia was inevitable. Her mind worked hard to establish a parallel between the shy puppy she'd met months ago and the young adult now standing before her. "You are beautiful," she admitted with a sigh, ensnaring the teenager in a tight hug. "How are you?" - Cambria Marino - 12-22-2009 [html]

300+ Cambria returned the gesture, polite as always. She wouldn’t have expected otherwise from the Commander’s children. They represented their mother well in her absence. Getting over the initial shock took some time; the tan femme had to regain her bearings before getting implicated in their blooming conversation. Healing and other medical procedures were unknown phenomena to Alexey. Her pack still lacked an experienced herbalist; medics never stayed very long, usually departing from Dahlian soil with little to no explanation provided. She did not blame them, of course. A leader like Haku wasn't easy to cope with. Alexey herself couldn't help but wonder why she hadn't done the same. Foolish loyalty, perhaps. Dahlia de Mai was her home, and starting over elsewhere was not an option. "Where do you get healing plants during the cold season?" Flora wasn’t exactly abundant in winter. By plants, did she mean conifers? There were plenty of those around. But then again, Alexey’s knowledge was pretty much nonexistent when it came to the vegetable kingdom. "Maybe I can help you find some," she offered, clearly interested in Cambria’s chosen vocation. Both of her ears fell back when the Dreamer countered with two inquiries of her own. They were simple questions and yet, Alexey struggled to find adequate answers. She had to be truthful with the younger female because Cambria had done nothing to deserve dishonesty. Not to mention, she was a terrible liar. “I’m okay,” she started, pursing her lips together in between replies. “Got a lot of stuff on my mind today. I just needed to get away from home for a little while.” The Caregiver just gave a nonchalant shrug of her shoulders, in an attempt to trivialize the gravity of her problems. Her tone of voice was light, although one could easily detect a nervous undertone behind the words spoken. - Cambria Marino - 12-27-2009 [html]

300+ Cambria’s knowledge did not cease to amaze her. How could someone so young be dotted with such infinite wisdom? Her acquaintance with various healing notions was remarkable, but that’s not what caught the Caregiver’s attention. Behind the vocational path she’d chosen, lay an immeasurable purity of heart. The young girl’s motives were fuelled by her need to nurture loved ones. They were alike, in certain ways; both females contributed to a better world, starting with friends and family. What Cambria aspired to do through healing, Alexey did by caring for children in need. “I’ve never heard of Ginseng,” she admitted, wondering what the plant looked like and how it survived the cold season, unlike the vast majority of plants. "What does it do?" Starting at the very beginning, where they could focus on acquiring a variety of new ingredients seemed like an adequate plan. As for the part where in depth research was required; Alexey could always grant the younger female access to the library in Wolfville. But she refrained from inviting her over right away, knowing that her home was no longer safe for as long as Haku remained in charge. Endangering Cambria was not an option. “No, nothing’s wrong with Conor.” Would it be considered lying if she stated that he was fine? Physically, the boy showed no signs of wounding. But his state of mind was nothing short of a wreck. “Well, not really. Things got a little complicated between us,” she admitted, to her own surprise. A tinge of desperation took possession of her voice, causing it to falter every two or three words. Alexey had reached a point where she deemed it necessary to confide in someone, even if said person happened to be considerably younger and the daughter of a long-time friend. Moral or not, her sanity was at stake. “What we feel for each other is... unacceptable.” - Cambria Marino - 01-02-2010 [html]

300+ Modesty ran strong in the Marino family; Alexey had come to realize that overtime, throughout her occasional discussions with the Commander and now, with her young daughter. Cambria did not embellish her knowledge, and such a sincere personality could only be rewarded with boundless trust. The chocolate youth’s embarrassment was uncalled for; if one considered the fact that she already knew more about the art of healing than Lexey, who was at least twice her age. With puckered brows, she provided a soft shake of her head. “I’m sure you’ll exceed in whatever you do, Cambi. Don’t ever doubt yourself.” she lightly chastised, throwing in a smile for good measure. The girl had a heart of gold. “I can bring you some books from the library in Wolfville, if you’d like.” She liked that alternative; it brought no harm upon the teenager, and she would indirectly contribute to a good cause. Perhaps, one day, Cambria would cure a Dahlian puppy in need. Illnesses were not uncommon. And with a demented Rosen at the head of their pack, danger was an unfortunate reality they all had to live with. She would add this to her repertoire of things to do next time she took a trip down south, down where the land of Dreamers lay; a place where she could, if only for a small moment in time, find peace of mind. Cambria’s bewilderment was revealed through both her expression and vocal response, prompting a wave of humiliation to wash over the Koios woman. She should’ve expected confusion from the girl; this wasn’t something Savina would have exposed her daughter to. Even Conor, who’d seen numerous atrocities in his lifetime, could not understand the trouble in which they were getting into. “It isn’t right for us to love each other like,” she paused, trying to find a paradigm the Cadet would understand. “Like your mom and dad do.” Confiding in the teenager had lifted a weight off her shoulders, but only for a brief moment. Remorse came next. Why was she exposing Cambria to her wicked reality? - Cambria Marino - 01-12-2010 [html]

300+ Conversing with someone his age, a girl with an ideal upbringing and loving parents, made the Caregiver’s feelings for Conor that much harder to bear. Striking behavioural differences were noticeable between the boy and her cousin; it was a little too apparent how one had been forced to grow up amidst chaos and instability, propelling him into a mode of imposed maturity. She should’ve discerned this before now; perhaps she had and merely chose to ignore it in order to alleviate the guilt weighing on her mind. But now, as Cambria further questioned her rapport with the boy, Lexey couldn’t help but divert her gaze from the Dreamer’s penetrating seafoam orbs. How could she explain it? Ethics and morals were determined by society’s standards, forcing public opinions on citizens. She did not entirely understand the reasons why their relationship was unacceptable either, thus making it difficult for the Acer to provide her young friend with an adequate response. Granted, she once had played the role of a surrogate mother for the boy, but things had changed. He had grown up, blossomed into wonderful young man; one she had unwillingly warmed up to. Was it love? She was beginning to think so. At first, Alexey had doubted herself; wondering if said feelings were caused by a lack of affection, or by undisputable love. With a sigh, the cinnamon femme gave a slight shake of her head. Oh, how she wished the words would come easily. She knew that, in the end, poor Cambria would only find additional bewilderment. “I – I don’t know. I wish things weren’t so complicated. He’s so much younger than I am, and I’ve been the closest thing he’s had to a mother... people just wouldn’t understand.” She couldn’t blame the little Dreamer for not seeing what the problem was. There were a lot of things to take into consideration; Conor’s parents, his childhood, how he probably wouldn’t feel as strongly for her if she hadn’t been the one to give him respite from all the heartache. And exposing Cambria to these things wasn’t such a good idea. “I’m not making any sense, am I?” she finally added, pairing her inquiry with a sheepish grin. - Cambria Marino - 01-22-2010 [html]
