Kansas was both shocked and made proud by his children, as well. None of them had disappointed him by the wolves they'd become; her cherished everything about all three of them. They weren't perfect, but to him, they may as well have been. It was given that they would take a few wrong turns; he only wished that they would not make the same sorts of mistakes he had as a young adult, and kept themselves in the company of wolves who would help guide them into a healthy adulthood. Kansas often had trouble thinking about letting them go in such a way, but he knew he'd have to. It would be exciting to see where Gotham, Amata, and Cambria took their lives; but it had also been fun, parenting little ones.

Kansas had thought deeply about where he would take Savina. Since Anu's suggestion, planning their getaway was fairly the only thing on his mind; it had in all honesty become an obsession. Hopefully, however, it would pay off. He wanted her to go home feeling refreshed and rested, and he planned on assisting her in more ways than one. Kansas had, on the way to the edge of the forest, wondered if Savina would find his efforts kind of contrived, but now he wasn't so worried about that anymore. If she began to think this way, he'd pick up on it, and he hadn't yet. Her cheerful response reinforced his worry-free attitude, in itself an extremely rare way for Kansas to be.

He couldn't stop smiling, like a teenage boy with a crush. He tipped the neck of the bottle, pouring her a hearty glass. The wine was warming him from the inside out, and whatever chill lingered around him vanished. It was the flawless combination of the wine, the fire, and Savina, though he wished she were closer. As they drank she leaned closer to him, and he felt the warmth close in on him. He was completely at ease. Her mere touch and the sincerity of her words caused him to set his glass down and wrap a pale arm around her dark shoulder. With his other hand, he tipped her chin up to face him. "Me neither." He touched his nose to her cheek and trailed kisses from there down to her neck, his fingers trickling down her arm. This felt so beautiful, so right.
