How understanding he was being! Nayru couldn't quite decide if it was really alright as he said it was. After all, she should be able to say the words she meant. Of course, maybe he hadn’t known she meant something else. Not that she was lost, but that she had been sent here. It was really all the same, because he had to deal with her now and they both knew that. And she had to prove that she was pathetic and in deserve of pity. What if she couldn't? What if he decided that she was alright on her own and turned her away? Was that possible? Nayru imagined herself trudging back, trying desperately to find the white lady to take her home again. Suddenly real anxiety washed over her and she flicked her ears back in hesitation.

I don't know. It was truthful. She didn’t know where they were. One night she had been sleeping with them, the next day she had just gotten separated. Somehow… that part wasn't clear. Nayru couldn't remember if she had wandered away because she was a stupid child or if they had perhaps gone too fast for her? They’re gone on without me. The dreamy child could see them in her mind, marching amid the early spring flowers, her sisters wondering where Nayru had gone but not asking.
