Poor Cambi! D:

What unfolded before her quickly began to smooth the wrinkles of embarrassment that Mati felt. She didn’t understand, not completely, but she wanted to make it right for Cambria. In any small way that would bring back that comfort and the ease that had finally settled between them Mati would momentarily forget the things she had seen, though even as she tried to push them away they crept back again and again. Cambia’s comfort was instantly (and a bit astonishingly) more important then any other feelings that rose in Mati. She felt a sense of responsibility and more powerfully a need to correct it. How she could fix it when her voice was still wandering away from her and fixated on the instant replay that she mind had placed on the short momentary scene she didn’t know, but she would.

After she spoke Mati waiting, but the time passed so slowly that she allowed herself to take the steps that would bring her closer to the bed. Cambria began to speak and the words flowed from her quickly but all staggered and jumbled. Violet eyes watched her face, filled with shame and confusion more so then anything Mati had ever seen. This surpassed the moments when they stood along in the woods, when she had fought her fear to climb the mountains of doubt and finally find the path that lead to Cambi. She had willingly taken it then, but only after days of internal battling. She had fought for her, even if it was only against her own insecurities. And once again it was all mere moments away from falling apart. They were not strong enough to survive this short upset if Mati walked away now, but she had not intension of doing so.

Mati approached her slowly at first, but as Cambria’s breathing and words hastened and grew repetitive she was beside her in a moment. As if it could all just be forgotten Mati sat on the bed beside her, a hand grasping her shoulder as if to cement her in place. She worried that the other female would send herself into a panic attack, hyperventilate, or worse. Her fingers were firm, but loosened to hold her gently. Its okay, it is. She said, finding herself calm in the hopes of settling the other female. Her eyes searched for the ocean colored irises that she knew to be so soft and yet hold her so solidly. I, Mati began but finding that she was still unsure what it was that would explain how she felt. I don’t want you to go. Mati affirmed as her hand slid down the other’s arm.

It was all so different and easily overwhelming; but that was not new for her. Cambria filled her small closed world so quickly and easy, she did it so often that Mati had grown used to the amount of emotion that welled inside but it was the intensity that constantly caught her off guard. Once more she had no idea where to take it, lost on the heightened plane of existence that she floated to in the other female’s presence. She let the intoxicating thoughts of the Marino girl swarm her mind and slip out into her words, soft and tentatively, I like your surprises.
