Her reluctance to reveal her sins to the world was taking its toll on her. No longer was she practising daily outside in the overgrown garden. Her body, hardened and accustomed with the hard physical workouts, was taking the sudden change badly, and she felt ill and depressed at the lack of the daily sessions that could not be continued for as long as the little thing sucked life out of her and demanded her presence. It was a small thing, but it was a small force that she could not control. Putting the puppy into the closet whenever she headed out did not work after its eyes had opened.

Another hunting session had been unsuccessful, but her absence was hours long and she followed the instinctual urgency to head back without a meal. She would survive another day, surely. The Hydra made a note to force Cotl to teach her the art of making and setting traps in the future. For now, she would feed of the caged creatures in the cellar—an emergency plan that had turned out to be brilliant once she actually thought about it. Back at the Mansion, the woman quietly opened the door and slipped into the hollow shell of a glorious human home. Her feet were light as they carried her towards the stairs.

The appetizing scent of animal blood caused her to hesitate, but she was not sure if she could bear interacting with anyone at the moment. Kaena knew, but few else were aware of what was going on. There would be questions, but there were so many of them that she could not answer.
