Kansas sensed many similarities between his love affair with Savina and the one that existed with his daughter and Mati. He saw them together rarely, but on those sparse occasions that he did see them, he was always delighted. There was a shimmer in the eyes of the young women when they shared glances that spoke of truest love. Whenever he looked at Savina, it was as if the whole world around them had come to a halt and only the two of them existed. He had an idea that for Mati and Cambria, it was the nearly the same. His daughter had been lucky enough to earn the precious gift he had himself.

She spoke wisely, though he had already known that what she said was true. She, of anyone, would know the painstaking effort it took to perfect an art. She mentioned that her brother Haven enjoyed music. Kansas had never met Mati's brother and knew nothing about him, but he had nevertheless always assumed that he was a wolf worth meeting. It appeared that they had some common ground. Kansas had never encountered another with the desire to play music — it would be nice to talk to someone who did. He kept this idea quiet for the time being, his attention stolen by Mati's next words. The man looked around them, simply absorbing the way the light danced across the lake and further into the forest of luminous emerald and mahogany. On the banks grew reeds and long grasses that swayed sweetly in the breeze. His turqoiuse eyes returned to the bronze woman, and he nodded his understanding. The possibilities were infinite. Well... ah, what do you like to draw best? he wondered.
