Nian observed the other wolf flinch when he spoke, but brushed it off. He understood being startled easily; himself, he was frightened of animals that were much larger than he was and tended to jump at surprises, too. It did not quite register in his mind that Claudius had been standing near him before, and so having a startled reaction made little sense. When he heard the poor wolf stammer out his introduction he smiled gently at him to let Claudius know that everything was all right. "Nice to meet you, Claudius. And don't worry about it... Like I said, I'm new, so even you've been around forever, I still probably wouldn't recognize you." The last name sounded familiar, but he could not quite place it either. Picking up the branches again, he asked, "Do you want to help? There's a few skinny branches you can pick up if you want."
