The man's stutter was more pronounced and Pripyat wondered if this was why he hadn't heard him speak much at the meeting before. Was it just a speech impediment the man had had since birth, or had something happened? The wonder was harmless, for the silver tinted boy did not mind the slow speech and was actually rather glad of it. He never was one much for words, more so than his father perhaps, but he could say a lot with a little. He preferred to listen, which was perhaps why it was usually he asking questions rather than answering them, and Noah spoke slowly, giving Pripyat ample time to listen and mull over his words and their meaning.

“Yes, I will always have a home here.” To this he agreed, but that did not dispel the fear that if he found a home someplace else, or a place that felt like a home, would he want to return to the Valley? Perhaps Noah was right, he should just try. He shouldn’t fight it, for if he never wandered out he would never know and would be forced to wonder 'what if' for the rest of his life. The idea of wondering 'what if' was unbearable, he was wondering that now and it made him restless and stir-crazy.

His ears perked at the next statement. It was an idea, and not one he had considered. Often he wondered just what he would eventually settle into, how he would rank in Phoenix Valley. As a very young child he had dreamed of helping to lead with Jefferson, but older now he was more realistic, less ambitious. He would be just as happy doing something else, so long as his mother and father were proud of him. To be a peacekeeper between pack could have been a natural fit, it would give him reason to wander, but what if the interest and itch of adventure did not burn out after conquering the neighboring packs?

“Noah, what's beyond all the packs though? I mean out farther? What's across the ocean?” Did the man even know?
