Cramping my style

It's okay, lovey! <3 400+ words.

The young Marino was so excited to be where she was, a place that she could only assume she wasn't really supposed to be, that she nearly forgot why she had gone up there in the first place. Artemis did not drop the rubber ball she had gone up there to get because, in the back of her mind, she knew that she needed to keep it in her hands so that she could give it to her best friend Denali, but she was no longer thinking about the ball or, admittedly, even her best friend down on the ground. She could hardly believe she was standing on the roof! It was so cool to be that high up in a place that she assumed no one else had been, because she knew it was kind of dangerous and she knew that her mom and dad would not be happy with her if they caught her up there (and imagine the heart attack she'd give her medically-trained sisters and the pack's nanny!). Such things had never stopped her before, though, and they certainly did not now.

There were icy patches beneath the snow and Artemis slid a bit as she walked toward the center of the roof, but she steadied herself with a cheerful laugh. Though she knew this was not something she was supposed to be doing, the young silver girl did not pay mind to this. She loved adventure and she loved exploring, and this was the perfect opportunity to do those things. Denali was not forgotten, but he certainly was not the first thing she was thinking about as she walked to the edge of the roof on the opposite side of the building from the porch. As such, his voice caught her off guard and she turned sharply, surprise etching on her young, rambunctious face as she realized that she could not get her footing again. She scrambled, her arms flying out as she tried to stop herself from falling, but she could not regain her balance as she toppled backwards from the roof of the second story.

The red ball flew from her fingers as she fell, soft blue eyes locked on the matching color of the sky as she lost control over her body for the first time in all her memory. She hardly felt the impact of the rock against her skull as her world went black.
