They were like the color of her father's eyes. She spoke again, and her voice sounded so weak and soft, but that didn't even bother the mother. Artemis' eyes were open, she was talking. She was awake. The words the malnourished adolescent on the bed spoke didn't even register as tears of relief began to flood the woman's eyes. Artemis was awake. She wasn't sleeping anymore, she hadn't died. She was right here.
Savina fell to her knees by the bed and wrapped her arms around her daughter's tiny torso, holding her close as the tears spilled onto her sooty cheeks. "Il mio bambino, la mia ragazza cara dolce..." The mother planted kisses on her child's cheeks. In that moment, all the horrible things that had happened seemed to melt away. In this moment, she felt that everything was going to be alright. The Italian fey hugged her daughter close, holding her so tight for fear the world would try to snatch her away again. "I thought we had lost you..." The words hitched in her throat, but came out nonetheless. It had seemed so dangerously close to that point for so long, but Artemis had come back to them.
