even angels learn how to fly

She knew his appreciation of her work was genuine, and smiled brightly as he spoke of hanging it up. It was strange to see joy on the face of the princess, but Gabriel had pulled it to the surface and Talitha had allowed it to stay. Her eyes sought for a suitable place to put it as he continued to speak, raising from her seated position to better inspect the walls. "I didn't think Enkiel was in control of your welfare right now." She didn't look back to him as she spoke. It wasn't necessary. Fragile fingers followed the contours of the wall and found a place to hang the jewelry, slipping the worn leather over the rock. She didn't return to his side, instead taking an interest in the books on the floor. She still couldn't read them. After her fight with Ezekiel, she had not desired to learn. She expected he didn't want to teach her either.

An unknown name reached her ears and she turned her head in the direction of the Aquila. She had never thought of her father outside of Inferni. In her mind, he was ever present, without a history that didn't include the coyote clan. The fact that he had been somewhere else piqued her interest. "Scintilla, what's Scintilla?" As her hands sifted through the old literature, her mind elaborated on some silly fantasy. Even in her daydreams, her father was a king, but in her daydreams, he was a better man. Silent guilt spread through her chest as she closed the door on her thoughts. "You don't tell us about who you were before mother."
