Of course, she should have expected it. The red-and-white wolf had a wanderer's heart, something that Ghita could appreciate, but something that made the mother all the more concerned for the welfare of her daughter.

She didn't want to burden Savina with the task of helping to keep Sophia in line, but it could only go on for so long before Ghita expected something bad to happen. Sophia was young. The Italian woman did not want the same life for her daughter that she had participated in — mated young with lost pups at an early adult age, it was no lifestyle for anyone, let alone a young she-wolf. The Marino woman's fingers stopped their tapping, a soft whine escaping her jaws as the fear once more settled in that her daughter was simply lost to them.
