He couldn’t believe it. Somehow or another he had lost sight of his cherub and even though he knew that his master could easily handle himself no matter the situation, he still wanted desperately to find him and be near him. It was like an itch that needed to be scratched and no sooner did he realize that Bastion was gone than did he start to frantically search around the area. Salsola was a fairly big area for him to look around but luckily he wouldn’t have to go and hunt too far for the source of where Bastion left him from. Sure enough, once his nose went to the ground, he found the one that he wanted to find and he followed that scent out from the main homeland and after a quick pause at the river to roll around in the water, he resumed the trail. Paws were silent on the ground as he walked, using his height as well as his intense nose to take back up the trail in no time. He followed the scent as sure as a bloodhound would, his ears swiveling and his steps sure as he made his way through the lands from the common to him to that which was not so common. But as usual the sudden change in scenery and the change in scents were a bit disorienting to him and he paused at the boundary between the two worlds, hesitating.

But knowing that his cherub was on the other side gave him enough of a push to start his feet and he moved on, not looking back since there was no reason for him to be uneasy now that he had made that important first step. His body told him to run to the male that had found him when he was floating around from place to place with no particular want or will to live. But his mind told him that such an idea was stupid and that it would be better if he calmly walked to where he would be. As he crested a ridge, a sudden breeze hit him and he looked up at the sky that was beautifully blue and open. How long had he been kept in complete darkness, been unable to feel the softness of the earth like that beneath his feet, and how long had it been since he had been able to see the sun’s light that spread out above him, caressing him with a mother’s gentleness. To him, his cherub was this sunlight to him. Bastion had broken through the fog that clouded his mind and had shown him that things could be okay. If ever he doubted that this new life of his was real, all he had to do was feel the back of his neck where his brand was, his hand sliding across the rough, burned skin, distinguishable from the rest of his scars.

He was sporting a few new wounds from his latest hunting excursion but he didn’t mind them. They would scar, adding to his already extensive collection, and would be another reason for his master to love him and pay attention to him. The wind blew to him a refreshing scent that made his bright eyes turn down to the yellowed landscape. It was a bright, cheerful yellow, not the color of blight or of dying grass. No, it was cheerful, bright, and happy and it drew his attention down to a stalk that wasn’t bending the right away. Upon closer inspection, it was the shape of a small wolf that he recognized immediately as Bastion. A surge of emotion leaped through his chest and throat as he started on his easy lope down to where his master was. Drawing up on him closely, he smiled down at him, looking up at the large head of the flower. ”What are you doing master?” He asked him with a little tilt of his head, looking down at the boy. It was as if Bastion thinking about him conjured him. ”Would you like me to get you this flower?” He asked him as he looked down at Bastion and then back around. He had never seen flowers this high before, but he had heard stories about them. Called sunflowers, he had heard them being talked about before when he was held as a slave. But they were always talked about like they were some kind of amazing, mythical flower, and he could see why. They resembled the sun greatly, showing that they were the true representations.
