He easily let her cuddle into his arms, hearing her protests toward the child having to leave her. The child belonged to Shiloh not X’y and it was only right that she did give her back. Saluce had been a surrogate father himself, at the time he hadn’t realized it but now he had come to understand that even he couldn’t leave them as easily as he had thought he could have. He was back in their land, if it was just to fulfill some selfish purpose of hanging onto them, even now that they had grown into fine adults. But her distress was different, she was about the same in age as he, and she had no children of her own. Instinct would eat at her, wanting her to bring on the next generation, and he caught glimpses of a mother in her.
“She was not yours to take care of X’y, you can be a friend and a female role model but mother it has already.” Saluce hoped she hadn’t had her long enough to be dreadfully attached to the puppy, he kissed her still trying to reassure her.
“You’ll be a mother one day X’y” he hoped she didn’t ask when, or bring on the subject of him being the father, since as to this day he hadn’t formally committed to her. Oh he wouldn’t mind making her a mother but still it was a bit scary to think of, but he didn’t know. But obviously he’d have to tackle that now.
“You know, meet some nice guy, really like him, stay together for a while and get mated, you know puppies just have a way of happening after that” he gave her a soft grin then. Hoping he was shifting the conversation away from what she had lost.
