The dingy buildings rose in the hazy distance. A thin, silver sheet of rain fell, but the clouds were thin and there was plenty of light. It had been sunny earlier, with no more than a few horsetail clouds in the sky. Ksenija sighed sharply, irritated that it was now raining. She had expected the pretty weather to last all day, giving her a chance to get into Halifax when there would likely be canines to take interest in her goods. The young woman was less than a mile away from town, so was no reason not to continue. The rain was light and had just begun to fall an hour ago. She was sure there would be a few wanderers, and her things were certainly worth lingering in the rain to look at.

Kse gently kicked the horse's sides and it obediently began to trot, hooves thudding on the stony earth. Soon she reached a small, residential street and followed it deeper into the city, until it became a wide avenue with skeletal shops along either side. Her mood began to lift, for there was a nice crowd of canines milling the street and its sidewalks. Smiling, Ksenija lowered the hood of her leather coat, pale eyes slowly drifting around her. She wouldn't have trouble.

The Russian female chose a place on the walk that was covered by the awning of an old restaurant and dismounted her stolen horse. She took down the saddlebags full of valuables, most of them also stolen, and carefully began to form a display on a rich red velvet cloth that she had spread on the ground. When she was finished, she stepped off to the side and admired. She had such nice things. Kse leaned against the horse, her shoulders squared smugly as she threw inviting smiles at the canines on the street.
