She was in the middle of playing with her son when the cry came to her ears. Ember frowned and quietly bid that the boy return to the den, fearful for a moment. She had thought that things with Inferni were over, and that Phoenix Valley hadn't been involved. But the howl that she heard did not belong to her Kalona...it was the howl of the leader of the Valley pack, Jefferson. She put her hand to her hip, feeling to make sure that Lightning was still securely strapped to her side, then slid her hand over to grasp her dagger. Whoever had attacked the Valley would pay.
She was on Bayard and making her way to the area that she had heard the howl in a matter of minutes. The horse seemed to sense the urgency in her voice as she rode, mumbling to herself. There must have been an attack. What had Phoenix Valley ever done to anyone? The dark wolf came upon the scene in a flurry of hooves, her appaloosa skidding to a halt a few yards away from the trio. Something was wrong..the air smelled deeply of blood..and Jefferson was supporting something. Or someone. She swallowed hard and dismounted, coming nearer to try and see what was going on.

It is indeed quick
She stood there in limbo, unsure of what she ought to be doing or what else she could say to help the situation. Her ears were back and stress lined her face. She hoped that Dawali would be able to do something for her friend. He seemed to know what to do, at least. And she hoped that Geneva hadn't been injured so badly that her body wasn't able to be repaired.
The Kalona spoke once more and she knelt down by the silver furred woman. She would do whatever she needed to. Ember unstrapped her weapons belt, laying it down on the ground. "I'll do whatever ya need me to." She said. Even if it hurt Geneva now...if it would help her heal then it needed to be done. She remembered the pain of her broken arm, when it had been put back into place. "Is there anything we can give her for pain?"

ooc: Hello there! welcome to 'souls She was starting to get back on her feet again and had been walking around a lot in the last few days. Ember's illness had lasted nearly two weeks and had kept her off her feet. She didn't know exactly what she'd had, whether it had been some kind of a cold or the flu, but she had barely been able to breathe..had been feverish, and had become dizzy whenever she would try and stand up. Her tribe had kept her very well supplied, something that she was grateful for. The dark leader was getting around to checking the borders today, this being the farthest trip that she had made thus far since her bout with that odd illness. It was nice to get back to some kind of normalcy; she had gone stir-crazy stuck in her den all day, though a good majority of her time had been spent dazed or sleeping. Her sister had visited with herbs that had kick-started her immune system back up and now she was feeling much better. She stood on two legs today, her long black cloak protecting her still-weak body from the elements as she walked. Her sword Lightning was strapped carefully to her belt, a dagger next to that. She was a warrior of Aniwaya and would protect the lands if she found anything suspicious...regardless of her strength. That thought was just passing through her head when she smelled the stranger, and bright green eyes flickered across the surroundings, trying to catch a glimpse of whoever it was. She finally saw the other wolf, a shape along the fence that surrounded this portion of Aniwaya, and approached slowly. "Howdy there, stranger. What can I do for ya?" |

She wasn't nervous about living here, just curious about what the territory had to offer. She already knew what she had to offer to them...and it wasn't much. So she didn't expect too much in return. Each pack was different, too--it would be a new experience to be here. Ember was very glad to have Khaden there with her; he seemed much better at this than she was. He was asking questions that she hadn't even thought about, questions that were very important.
She looked to Laurel for the answer, then back around at the surroundings. What a peculliar place.

The sun was beginning to sink down in the sky but it was only early evening. Whitewash clouds graced skies the purest of blues overhead, swirling into slightly mellower colors near the horizon line. It was a beautiful day, with no rain falling at all, and the sky seemed to be as happy about that as Ember was. There had been a little flooding in Aniwaya but not too much. The packmembers were old enough to know to avoid the water, even the youngest members, the Aston children, so she wasn't too worried about them.
She sat out on the beach, looking out over the waves. They kept rolling over and over and over each other...did it ever stop? She liked the pattern and continued to watch the water, though, making little designs in the sand with her fingers. What a great day this had been.

She hadn't realized that with her dark clothing and dark fur she might be hard to recognize in the fading light of the day. Bayard was a deep color as well, a dark brown with white splotches along his hindquarters, so he probably looked pretty odd to the youngster as well. She hadn't been around pups in a while, Tayui's having grown to the point where they were off doing their own things, and Amata's small reactions and speech put a smile on her usually serious face. She hadn't liked children much before, but it seemed that she was growing used to them as time went on. She wasn't considering any children for herself in the immediate future (she was a warrior and did not think that it would be a very smart choice just yet) but she would think about it.
"Yes, this is a horse. Do you have any horses in Crimson Dreams?" She asked. Bayard eyed the child with interest now that it was speaking more, looking back to Ember a few times before extending his neck downward, his head going toward the child to give her a good sniff. Once satisfied he brought his head back up to its normal position. To him, the little girl probably smelled odd. They didn't often go outside of Aniwaya and he probably didn't recognize her strange scent.
"He's very smart. I can talk to him, too. Maybe once we get back to my den I can teach you about it--about speaking to the animals. I can call a few animals over, so you can try and talk to them, if you want. Do you think it's a good idea?" She had a few hares in her den that she had been saving from yesterday to give to Dawali, but one puppy probably wouldn't eat all three of the hares. There would still be some left for Dawali.
When the pup stood up against her legs she leaned down to pick her up, then put one foot into the stirrup. To her it didn't seem so high, but to Amata it probably did. Puppies' legs were much shorter...they were closer to the ground. Ember pushed herself back in the saddle a little, placing the pup in front of her in the seat. "Sounds good to me. You like rabbit, right, Amata?"

The choice that he made was a good one, in her opinion...she liked the looks of this stallion. He reminded her of Bayard, her own...Bayard was a dark brown color with white spots around his rump. She wasn't sure how many other wild herds there were out there...but it was possible that many of the horses were related. Perhaps he was an older sibling or even the father of her young adult horse.
"I think that ya made a good choice. He looks a bit like my horse Bayard, in the first stall." She smiled. They had a limited amount of saddles and tack, but she could spare him one of the older ones so that he would be able to ride the horse back home with him. Unless he would prefer riding the horse bareback, that was always an option. "I have a saddle that would fit him, if you're interested. Unless you want to ride him without one"
At the question of where she wanted the piercings, she had to stop and think for a moment. A sudden feeling of nervousness came over her for a second, but the fluttering in her heart stopped after a few deep breaths. "I want um..three little ones in my right ear, a big one in my left ear. Maybe the bridge of my nose if it's possible? And one above my eye?"
