WC:: 758 - OOC Points - 7

As Axelle's eyes opened and looked upto him, Kai's own angled down to find her own, and that eye contact held him motionless. He couldn't have pulled away even if he wanted to. He had darkness in him, a tonne of it, and yet here and now, lying with this female who was still so upset, every last drop of it had vanished from him. He watched her wipe her tears, finding himself hoping that no more fell to dampen her fur once more, before his head tilted into her hand that ruffled at his neck. Her touch was affectionate, and he liked it, more than he would care to admit, even to himself, and so when she grabbed him softly and planted that kiss upon his muzzle, he was caught by surprise a little. In any other situation, and with any other female, Malakai would have used this an his invitation, his opportunity to take things further, to become a typical male and turn their closeness into something sexual. But he didn't. It wasn't what she needed, and because of that, he found that it wasn't what he needed, either.

His body relaxed against her, especially when her hand continued to stroke against his dark fur. What was he doing? Malakai, the aggressive, dominant, stubborn, hot-headed, arrogant male was lying with a female in her own den, and he wasn't trying it on with her... Instead, he lay there like a pet, soaking up her tears. How was she doing this to him? It was as if she was taming him, his wild ways. Something about this thought paniced Kai. What next? He'd be snuggling in with that cat next... No, that couldn't happen. His chest swelled with bravado as if he didn't want her thinking he had gone soft, but he had. He had gone soft with her. To her words, Malakai cocked his head to the side curiously, watching her as if monitoring how many more tears fell from her eyes, but hesitated in replying. After all, Kai had killed a member of his family, his own brother, through jealousy and bitterness, reasons which Kai had never questioned before or since the crime. He had been just. Not only hatred, but to prove to their parents that it was Kai who would make a better Alpha, not Rafael, the golden boy. Kai was stronger, faster, smarter. The fact that Rafael was dead was proof of it. His reasons had never seemed petty, they had never lacked logic. They just were.

By telling Axelle any of it though, he would not be helping. She was upset because her father had murdered her family. His family. Perhaps her father's reasons had been as valid to him as Kai's were to Kai himself. He couldn't go down that route with her, questioning why he had done it. Malakai found himself wanting to say 'sorry', but he wasn't sure what good it would do to her or what it would mean coming from one who killed one of his own family. It was becoming clear that perhaps Kai wasn't as qualified to give her comfort and sympathy as he had first assumed. In fact, he was probably the worst individual to be having such a conversation with, having comitted much the same crime as Axelle's father had done. And yet, he knew he had to say something...

It took him a long minute to reply, but when he did, he lowered his muzzle towards her, letting another, softer snort escape, before he nudged it lightly against her own. "You miss them." Nothing quite like stating the obvious. "I hope it was quick for them..." They perhaps weren't the most tactful of words, nor the most comforting to her; most would have offered their apologies before asking about the circumstances surrounding their murders. Not Malakai. He was a creature who knew how to cause pain, who enjoyed doing so and who pulled bunnies apart just to get a look at their insides. The physicality of pain was something Kai was getting to know very well and so when he told her that he hoped their deaths had been quick, it may have sounded rather uncaring but his words came from a place of understanding and of concern. It was true - he did. There was nothing that could be done for them now, but he at least hoped their suffering had been minimal. He knew that if she wanted to, if she felt comfortable enough, she would tell him what had happened.
