We all wear masks, and the time comes when we cannot remove them without removing some of our own skin.” Andre Berthiaume

Owls. Well that was unexpected. Honestly as far as companion creatures went owls were among one of the last that he had expected from her. As the smaller owl approached him he began to wonder just how he should react to the creature’s presence. Part of him thought to growl or swat the creature away but then again that wasn’t particularly in the mask he was trying to portray. More than likely he would simply display no reaction to the creature whatsoever. That decided he just continued walking towards X’y as her small owl friend landed upon his back and began its annoying pecking and gnashing at his fur. Again, part of him wished for his jaws to take the bird and break its bones between them. But that would only put him at odds with the curious one yet again.

So he did his best to try and ignore the small rodent like bird on his back. Owls were more oft than not portrayed as the wise keepers of the forest, linked to knowledge and wisdom. Something that his family had taken all too seriously when creating those little identification bands, X’ies on the other hand tended to see them much like any other bird in the world, flying pests. Except of course pigeons, which tended of course to be a stark contrast to the rest of the world. He saw pigeons as the personification of the avian evolutionary process. They were the most common bird in the world, but then again, did that make them less special? It just depended on your view on things. X’ies believed that they were the most common simply because their ability to survive, adapt and breed had over-ridden the majority of the other birds. That and, them like him. Appeared weak, blending into the surroundings. Becoming part of the background noise of society. Living their lives , unnoticed. Unbidden.

As he finally came near her, this time walking again with his noticeable limp. He stopped. Gestured at the owl on his back. “ ….Don’t you find it annoying?”
