Trent wasn't entirely surprised when he heard about riding horses, since he had seen some others that did - and at the time, it had surprised him, but no longer now - although he hadn't ever seen a horse tow wagons or plows. He didn't really know what either of those were, either, but felt stupid asking, so he did not.
Trent frowned as he looked at the pony that was following him around like a puppy that had lost its mother. He couldn't imagine her ever carrying anything. Especially not him. "Do you think this, err... Could learn that sort of stuff?" He wasn't so sure about riding, but maybe she could pull something? He'd seen the wagons - though he didn't know that was the word used for them - around the stables and track before, so he was pretty sure that it was possible. All he needed to do was walk next to her all the time while she pulled stuff around, he guessed, if she would always remain as attached to his hip as now. Maybe it'd get better once he'd stuff her in a stable somewhere, so that he could decide whether he wanted the annoying thing pluck at him all the time.
Trent smiled back at Alder as he spoke about horses as if he was speaking about a lover, and he couldn't help but laugh a little at Alder's seriousness on the subject. It sounded so silly to speak that way about something that, to Trent, had been food up until recently. He just smiled at Alder as they walked, not really sure how to respond to what Alder had just said, and afraid that any response he could give would be disrespectful.
