Zalen had been napping inside communal den that morning. Titania had kicked him out of the area around the birthing den and he knew better not to question her; a pregnant Alphess was not something to be trifled with. So, he had returned to the alcove within the main den and snuggled up there for a nap, one which he had been enjoying thoroughly when the sounds of a shocked voice came to his ears.

He started immediately, recognizing the voice as Cody’s though it sounded different, and then he heard Lena’s voice; they were nearby. Zalen stood and stretched his muscles out quickly before trotted out of the den into the sunlight. It took his eyes a moment to adjust but there the two pups were, Cody standing on two-legs and Lena in the throes of shifting. Zalen stood there in shock for a moment not saying anything, just looking at the two of them. Their first shift, something miraculous that Zalen had never witnessed before.

Cody, though still small, looking like a strapping young man now, and Lena, as her limbs lengthened and stretched, transformed into a dark lady right before his eyes. Any awkwardness that he normally would have felt in such a situation dissipated and he walked up to the two young adults, Is this the first time? He asked somewhat breathlessly, standing up onto his own back legs to give them both a better look. They both looked perfectly strong and healthy, he knew Sky must be proud.
