Squirming around in the mud, Pascal couldn't help little grunts and squeals of delight. The sticky sweetness of the mud that clung to him was divine and he felt the giggles of laughter peeling from him. He hadn't know what the sound was until Mama had explained it to him, the day he'd asked. Eugene had laughed as well and the brothers had soon fallen into fits of giggles, though neither of them entirely knew why. Now, Pascal recognised the 'happiness' in him- Mama had told him that laughter was for happy people and that the reason he laughed was to express this. After a furrowed look at Mama, he'd nodded his little head and continued on.
Now, however, there was a voice he didn't recognise. He froze, mismatched eyes searching and finding only mud for the moment. Laying on his side, legs splayed out in the mud, he was facing away from the source of the noise. He did, however, recognise the words and it sent a tingly feeling through him. Where? He cried, fear and his youth colouring the tones a high pitched whine. He moved, faster than anything he'd ever moved before, mud-soaked coat weighing him down as he attempted to get away from the mud 'monster'- for he knew exactly what a monster was and what it could do.
