Their discussion had gone from lighthearted and playful to dangerously serious within moments. It was a shame that she’d gone and ruined the mood by changing the topic of conversation, but finding the children was her top priority. When DaVinci announced that he’d been too caught up with his own pack’s complications to keep up with other issues, the Koios girl could only sympathize with him. Hell, she had plenty of things to deal with when it came to Dahlia de Mai and she wasn’t even a leader. She could imagine how rough being in a position of power could be.
It was still a little odd that Firefly hadn’t taken the time to seek him out, though. Didn’t he have the right to know? He was their uncle after all. Alexey found it ironic how she was always the one bringing him bad news. On the first day they’d met, she had told him how Firefly was being kept hostage within enemy lands. And now, now she was about to tell him his two nephews were missing. Ugh. Did he even know the Acer had given birth to them yet?
Alexey felt the need to lower her gaze to the ground before delivering the bad news. “They’re gone,” she said, glancing up to see if DaVinci would catch on. “Emwe and Conor, they’re gone! Someone took them away!”
