sometimes you can't win them all

Sankor had been trying to avoid all of the pack lately and it only seemed that he had been attracting more and more members around him. The male had laid down upon an old fallen log and rested his head on his forepaws, a soft groan escaping his lips as he tried to find a nice cool spot of shade on the humid day. He hated his thick coat and wished that his thinner summer coat would already come in. He was beginning to think that he was going to have to do some serious grooming if he even wanted the thicker winter coat to disappear. He didn't even want to think about that right now so he just sighed and closed his eyes, hoping if he couldn't see the world it would all just disappear.

...Of course that never worked though and almost as soon as he'd shut his eyes the birds began their melody overhead and the squirrels caused a ruckus in the bushes. He flicked his ears back as a growl of annoyance escaped his throat. Opening one golden orb he glared at a butterfly that had quietly landed on a wildflower mere inches from his maw. He was tempted to snap up the insect and end it's life but he figured the stupid thing would taste horrible. Instead he just gave in and closed his eye once more hoping the surprises had ended for the day.
