It was strange, to be a in a place that seemed to exist in between places. Lime green eyes scoured terrain that had become more and more familiar within the passing months. Lines of green crept up from cracks in the sidewalk, warring with the otherwise monotone color of the city. Even the sky above reflected the hues of concrete and asphalt. Storm clouds gathered above her head, hanging low and ominous, full of a flood. It seemed that everything here was a pearl gray, in contrast with the trees that twisted alongside buildings, and roots that crumbled the sidewalks.
The gray femme walked swiftly, feeling the dryness in the air, the calm before the storm. She could have chosen a better day to venture out into Halifax, but she had felt particularly restless that morning. She had awakened with much on her mind. Thoughts swam, and emotions teemed transparent on her face as she flitted through each different subject. A lot had happened in the last few weeks. It seemed as though life just kept getting more eventful for the woman.
Two thoughts floated to the surface, seeking to enthrall her and steal away her full attention from the present. First, how strange and complicated her feelings and situation with Jefferson seemed to have gotten. When she was with him, she wanted to feel so much at once, but didn't have enough room in her heart to feel everything at once. Her last meeting with a blue-eyed woman haunted her thoughts too. Her mind stayed on the minute details, the eerie glittering in her eyes, the deceptively soft tone and her strange, cruel words. She didn't know what to feel or think about it. She didn't want to feel anything at all.

The clouds looked far too dark, and the dry weather wouldn't hold. She would have to seek shelter soon, or run the risk of being soaked. Still, she found herself without direction or purpose.
