The comment was too akin her own for her to respond, so she kept her eyes fixed firmly on the woman's crouched figure. Something about her seemed to sing to the land, though Valkyrie couldn't pinpoint what. For all intents and purposes she was a naïve, careless child on the verge of a discovery, one that may — or may not — change her life entirely. Perhaps it was the plunge she lacked, the inability to set out for some purpose. Maybe it was what kept her in a world where she felt more or less useless and pointless, what with a father who she never saw and didn't even know who she was, even though she knew him, and a clan that had little but sand and grass.
They were inviting but Valkyrie refused to believe they were all there was.
The other's name was given, and immediately, she was able to draw lines back to that feeling she got from the matron. This was Inferni's own mother. Somewhere in a different world, this same hybrid that was speaking to her now had created the roots of something that would last far beyond that place. They had relocated, she had been told, long after Kaena had departed for seemingly no reason, but she had found them once more.
Inexplicable, the way blood drew one back to places they had never been before.
You're Gabriel's mother, she stated pointedly, as if she could even begin to understand their own tie. She was related to Kaena through her mother, that much was true, but the tie was only light, and perhaps only existed through de le Poers. Perhaps she was not, in fact, at all a part of Kaena's bloodline, but only of Gabriel's. It did not matter; this was the clan founder before her.
You also founded Inferni. Welcome back! And she gave a bright, winning grin, as if Kaena needed to know she was welcome in the clan she herself had dug out of the sand with a heart of fire.
