Broken innocence

When there was a call from the entrance from the house, Conor almost wet himself in instant fear. It was a masculine voice that immediately announced that the owner of that voice was a man. The boy realized that it was not his father nor any other adult that he knew for certain was mean, but that voice was not recognized. The baby fox weakly twisted in his grasp, exceedingly alarmed by the boy’s own fear. The little creature saw Conor as a dangerous predator, and it was not often that a prey discovered that even the larger animals knew fear. The animal was too weak to do anything much at all now, and Conor took a chance and lowered the injured creature down to the wooden floor. As long as the fox did not leap for the door, it was fine, and at the moment the growing puppy was blocking that exit, and the small creature crawled in the opposite direction. He needed Alexey here so that she could rescue both Conor and the little nameless fox cub.

Although Conor could not see the adult enter, he could hear it. It made his heart leap halfway up his throat before the boy swallowed down again. Lilac eyes shot to the door. He could shut it and barricade himself in front of it. This way whoever was coming could not get into his room instantly. The door was of that kind that swung into the room, and the boy quickly nosed the open ajar, then shut it by pushing with all his strength behind. It made the traditional sound; banging shut, but at least Conor felt slightly safer now. Doors were easily opened, but it was not always that people were in their werewolf forms, and Conor hoped that was not the case now. It was just comforting to have something concrete between him and whoever dared to walk right into lovely Lexey’s house.
