my lullaby, hung out to dry

“I promise.” The words were automatic.

Yet Anu meant them as she meant all the words she spoke. Nothing was more important then honesty, to the slight female. Lies bred too many bad things, things she could list until the end of time. She would rather say nothing at all then spout a lie for any reason. Anu had her moments where the truth was danced around, avoided but she would never lie to Savina. If there was any beast Anu would be faithful to, or honest with, it was the Marino woman.

Blue eyes stayed with the onyx color female, unsure what would be spoken next. She feared that the secret would be crushing, that the release of it would bury both of them. She wasn’t strong, and too many times she crumbled below the weight of simple truths. It was at times such as these that Anu wondered if she was the right beast to sit beside the Commander. Again and again Savina allowed her to lead at her heel, no matter how many times Anu broke at the common whims of her heart.

Silent, Anu waited. She would keep this secret, and never utter it again.
