Kansas saw it as a good thing that they didn't know each and every detail of one anothers' lives prior to their mate ship. Though it warranted only a small element of relationships, needless pity never formed false affection between them. He felt as if their love was so pure, never spurious. They knew only the most important things about their pasts: his mistake with Lucifer and Naniko, her problem with her anger. And they accepted those things without using them against each other. He'd never brought up the screwed-up parts of his history for the sake of getting pity and forced comfort from her, and he was certain she'd never done that to him, either. They weren't without fault; nevertheless, they loved each other. Kansas never thought he'd have something so wonderful in his life.

He too felt the calm of the atmosphere around them. Her arms warm around his waist were perfect there, and despite the cold he was entirely comfortable. He was proud to be carrying her on horseback into their own wonderland. He sensed that she was just as content as he was, that the worries and trials of her rampant life were slipping away for the time being. And that had been his purpose. He didn't know how he was going to thank Anu upon their return. He only wished that the happiness he sensed in Savina could carry on within her when they returned to the real world. It seemed too much to desire.

Her lips against his neck sent a warm fluttering of butterfly wings through his entire body, so that he was almost clumsy as he helped her down from the horse. But he didn't dare allow her to fall; she slipped easily to the ground, and he couldn't keep himself from wrapping his arms around her in a gentle embrace. He pulled away and kissed her cheek, a bright smile on his pale face. She always replaced his twisted anxiety with happiness. She was his breath of air. "I'll get a fire going." Kansas reluctantly stepped away from her and pulled a few blankets from his bag to get at his matches. He also took out some old paper and dried sticks as starters, then set to gathering dry wood. He didn't have to go far to find some; there was surprisingly plenty within a reasonable distance of where Lexington stood. He arranged the wood and kindling, deftly flicking and lighting a match, and in no time there was a blazing fire. Kansas stood and got the blankets unfolded, making a soft place for her to sit down. The pale werewolf strode toward her, feeling that much better now that their time could start. The golden flames were bright in the dark of the coming evening, casting her eyes and swarthy fur in their glow. "You are so beautiful," it was something he repeated very often, but always his voice held an intonation of awe when he said it. He took her hand to lead her to the fire.
