They could have been the perfect opposites, the timid raven girl and the beastly hybrid that lurked behind her suddenly. The sweetheart and the brute. Through her own quivering breath and pounding heart, she hadn't heard him behind her, stalking her. It was only when he spoke, touched her, that she knew he was there. She froze then, almost completely, and her eyes were suddenly wide with fear. Monsters, he'd said, and that was what had caught her attention. No, she hadn't come looking for monsters, the exact opposite really. Blinking, her heart pounding rapidly, threatening to burst right out of her chest, she spun. The girl was quick on her feet, whipping her nimble form around to face the hybrid, the stranger that had touched her.

Ears dropped back immediately, plastering to her skull, and Nox slunk back away from him, cowering. Her legs bent, bringing her body closer to the ground, tail brushing the cold earth beneath her despite being plastered between her legs. Fear had always had a powerful hold over the D'Angelo girl, to the point that she often couldn't use her common sense in a bad situation. Quivering with fear, instinct kicked in suddenly, and the girl licked at the air in front of her, near to his muzzle, in a pathetic manner. "Th-th-the Fi-F-Fi-Fireflies." Her words were quiet, voice cracking as she attempted to explain herself. Her stutter was always there, but it was worse in times of stress, such as that very moment.

She didn't want the monsters, didn't want to see or hear them. All she had come for was to try and find the fireflies, to show her brother that she could do so on her own, and she didn't know how she could explain it to the unhappy stranger.
