If there was one thing the hybrid had not expected, it was this—even some within Inferni now lamented bloodshed. Her own Razekiel killed and regretted it; Rikka had did the same, despite what that had cost her. She had not anticipated such a clearly dark statement from the other canine, and this showed on her scarred face. There was something else in her single eye now, the same look of glee from a destructive child at pulling the wings from a bug. If there was one comfort in all of this, it was that she would be avenged, one way or another. If she failed, Gabriel would kill him. If he did not, Halo would take up the task. If she failed, someday, Samael would return, and nothing would save Haku from that child's vengeance. Regardless of Astaroth's lies, something dark lurked in that boy, she knew. He had not inherited it from his father, either—maybe the Kimaris lineage had madness lurking it it, maybe not. Either way, he belonged to her now.

“That is a certainty,” the coyote said. Someday soon, Inferni would throw a parade, marching about their perimeter with Haku's head on a stick, all of them in a procession behind her as she cried to empyrean how he was at last slaughtered and she was avenged. Maybe even that wouldn't make her feel clean again, but at least when she bathed in his blood she could find rest again. “If I don't do it, my family will,” the hybrid woman added. These were not possibilities or even prophecies in her mind—it was written in stone, set and immutable as the history behind her.
