Some were suited for peace. The coyote had told Razekiel this recently—some families would have been content to take the wounded home and patch them up and offer them comfort, nothing to say of the perpetrator of violence, but the Lykois were not given to this, Kaena maybe more than any of them. Haku would not roam unpunished forever—the chocolate-furred man's days were numbered, and this was the hybrid's sole comfort in thinking of him anymore. As long as Dahlia de Mai harbored him, they were in danger. If it were not for their leader, there would be nothing between them. As the hybrid saw it, Haku had driven Onus and Cwmfen out with the threat of their children first, and then he had taken care of Cercelee. She did not know what had happened to the latter, but at least Onus had been able to send word of his safe passage.

“What he took from me,” she corrected, though this was said softly and without a hint of sharpness. Anger had faded from the hybrid now, replaced with the ecstasy brought by visions of repayment to Haku Soul. “It would be a good end for him, but I wonder how many others he's hurt, too,” the hybrid said, shaking her head. The silvery hybrid was generally the last to offer sympathy to other creatures, but when it came to what she had experienced, it could not be helped. No creature deserved that, yet so many had inflicted it. In the end, they always paid for their crimes—she had seen to Salvaged's end, she would see to Haku's. If she failed, Gabriel would not, and behind him, there was a veritable army of Lykois to take up the cause. Speaking purely in numbers, Haku's demise was almost a certainty.
