The barn meant little, the thing inside and the poor rusted construction. Yes, perhaps it was interesting to look at for another, but Mati only filled the air around them with meaningless questions. The real conversation happened in silence, the way their eyes met, the brush of her fur against the silk of Cambria’s. It was something that needn’t be said, and still Mati could hear and feel it between them. Purple eyes watched as the other female moved away, the Church fey instantly wanting to be close again. Yet she stood back, watching the other female spring onto the bales of gathered hay. A light laugh came from her, amused by her friend’s antics.

Mati stepped forward, but her approach was interrupted by the howling wind that hit the barn. Her eyes went skyward, watching as the beam above them cracked and splintered. Instinctively her arm rose, covering her eyes as the large falling piece of wood came crashing down. The rusted metal roof could not be held, and as she heard the call of Cambi fill her ears Mati saw the smaller wolfess beneath the beam. Mati screamed her name, calling for her with desperation. But the sound was overcome by the falling of the rusted roof.

With no support and weakened by ages of weathering the sheet of steel simply fell, cascading through the air and landing on the barns dirt floor. It came with a crash, the sound and the sudden movement sending Mati backwards and to the ground. Her ears hummed with the resonating bang, her eyes blinking against the uplifted dirt. She coughed against the dust and when it began to settle she searched her Cambi. Still against the ground the only thing that she could see was the fallen roof, the sheet of metal leaning against the other remnants of the dilapidated roof and walls. "Cambi!” she screamed with panic in her tone. They were separated by the steel, the younger female no doubt still trapped by the beam. Mati rose, her hand touching the long piece of metal lightly incase it would fall again at a whim, but found it planted there solidly.

The Major tried to move it, the sharp edges cutting into the palms of her hands. She tired until the pain was too much, her voice calling to the other woman every minute of so. "I’m going to get help.” She promised, the tears of panic and fear welling in the corners of her eyes. With a moment of hesitation, for she was uneasy about leaving her, Mati ran to the doors of the barn, the tears freed from her eyes as she lifted her nose to the gray sky. A long howl came forth, broken and ragged by the urgency and panic that she felt. She called again, twice as loud and just as long in the hoped that her pack mates would come to their aid.
