Not a moment after she had called out for Mati the roof came in after the beam, deafening her with its resounding crash. She wasn't sure if she screamed, for if she did she didn't hear it. Dust filled the air and seeped into her lungs, making her cough violently. Sea green eyes tried to open, but the dust bit at them and she closed them, tears beginning to stream down her face from pain and panic. Her ears faintly heard Mati call to her, to say that she was going to get help, but she sounded so far away. The building continued to moan in protest as the wind buffeted it and she knew that more of it would begin to fall soon. The blood in her heart turned to ice and her survival instinct kicked in sharper than ever. If she didn't get out, she'd get buried and crushed. Cambria struggled beneath the beam, pushing against it with her hands. No matter how she tried though she could not gain an ounce of freedom. Her head laid back, whimpering, splinters cutting into her palms and torso. Was she going to die here?
Another clouded voice came to her ears. Her aunt, she had come. Help was coming. Cambi opened her mouth to call out but only succumb to another fit of coughing. Then another familiar voice materialized out of the obstructed air, that of her uncle. Whining, once more she pushed against the beam that held her down to no avail. Then finally she found her voice to call out to her family, the words laden with desperate fear and tears. "Here! I'm over here! Please...I can't move..." Her voice crumbled into sobs. She was so afraid, so very afraid.
