Crashing Down [pack thread]

It was difficult to find a task that allowed him both to think and to do something useful with his time, something that benefited the pack more than himself. So he was out and about, four long, lean limbs carrying him through the forested areas of Crimson Dreams. His senses were all alert for signs of prey; it seemed fitting that, with spring afoot, he pay attention to what would feed them all. Especially with three new babies in the pack. Overall, Kansas was happy, and felt his happiness more purely with each breath of spring air that entered his lungs. But his happiness, so very sweet, was interrupted by a startling sound that sent chills through his entire body. The intensity of the feeling put him to an immediate halt, tail straight outward from his slim quadrupedal form. What was most disturbing was the broken sound of the call, laced with urgency and uncertainty. And its voice was unmistakably Mati's.

After a split second to experience a sickening wash of worry, he sprang into action. Kansas was not far from the barn, it turned out, for in what seemed like only a few strides the structure was before him. But it was broken and bruised, a weak figure violated by the overpowering strength of nature. There were wolves present already, a vibe of distraught pain permeating the air. He saw that he may need use of his hands in order to help, so he shifted quickly and ran as quickly as possible to the barn. Turquoise eyes were wide with fear, a large sigh quivering in his chest. The blue orbs found Mati and Anu, caught in an embrace in which the mother was ensuring that her child was unharmed. Mati. A girl with a heart of gold, the one he knew Cambria loved with all the flawless compassion of her own big heart. From the distraught look on the earth-furred young woman, he knew that something must have happened to Cambria. Of course, several other things could have occurred here. But Kansas just knew.

Softly, the boy rested one skinny, long-fingered hand upon the girl's shoulder, the other on Anu's. His voice was controlled as well as he could, broken and stuttered with the emotion and concern inside. "P-please... tell me what happened. Where is she? What can I do?" Oh, but he was itching to get into that barn and save his baby. She had been nearly thieved from him already. Kansas was not a man to take control of a situation, to go find his daughter himself. No, he required thought, he needed to know what was going on first, lest he barge in only to make things worse.
