He sat silently by the gently rocking waters of the lake. It was nice to just sit down, feel the breeze as it swished his fohawk back and forth, back and forth. Ebony hands gently twisting the long grass around his fingers and he let nature and time just be for now. There was no sound around him for the moment, just the wind in the trees, the swishing of water and the bright pleasant chirping of birds. This time of year was perfect. The sun was high in the sky but the air was just cool enough to keep him from sweating, a nice breeze on his face, it just felt brilliant for a black covered wolf. All was well, peaceful and away from the world for that brief moment until it happened. A piercing howl penetrated the silence sending birds flying and letting out their own panicked calls.

Jazper jumped to his feet and tilted his head as the voice processed. Mati. The last time the girl had been in trouble that monster had just about gotten his claws in her. Immediately his body kicked into overdrive from the protective instincts that thrived in his genes. His legs sprinted, his brain searching through a large list of possible things that could be wrong. As he approached the area of the barn he could see from a ways back that his pack mates had already begun to arrive and Mati was safe with Anu. Slowing down he stared at the rubble in disbelief until a familiar scent got caught in his nose. As he listened to Kansas stutter while he asked questions the ebony male's body began to tense up. Ghita, she was here, the scent was fresh. Turning to Anu and Kansas he almost growled in a deep rumble, “Where is she?” Before the wolfess could answer he flung himself into the broken and deteriorating building. His nose sniffed at the air in a violent fashion as he recklessly thundered across pieces of rubble.

Finally, he stopped in his tracks, his large hands patting a lengthy and heavy looking sheet of wood. “Ghita!?” He called. She was under there, he just knew it, the smell was so strong here. Without hesitation the massive beast started breaking, lifting, and throwing wood any way he could until the unconscious body of his beloved was reveled. The Knight choked back a whimper as he saw the bent leg. Gently as a giant could he lifted the girl in his strong arms and brushed away her hair from her face as he silently left the rubble behind. Worry filled his lightning colored eyes as he looked up to Anu and whispered, “She got crushed.” With the words his heart started to ache, how could he let this happen to her? Why hadn't he been there to stop it, to protect her? The normally wild and free spirited wolfess lay looking rather fragile and broken in his arms. He wanted to hold her tight and shield her from the world but all he could do is stare at his mate unable to help her.
