The day was overcast, but aside from the lack of sun it was a fairly nice day. Princess had gone off to get some new clothes from the city and Haven had gone about his usual daily duties. He had dropped her off at the borders and then continued his rounds to make sure everything was sound and secure. For a while he had been worried that the problems with Dahlia de Mai might start leaking closer to home, but so far it did not seem that had happened and he was glad of it. If any of that pack's members came around he would be quick to run them off with few questions asked. After what had happened to Firefly, any sympathy he might have held for their ranks was practically gone. After that he had taken Drogon back to the stables, brushed out his mane and tail, check his hoofs, and fed him. From there he went out to do his usual sword practice and conditioning. By the time he finished with that, he would guess that Princess would be back and they could get some dinner together. Things were returning to normal for them and all fears of her leaving him had evaporated like morning mist. He was glad that shadow had been swept away.

Half-way through his practice he became warm and draped his jacket over a nearby tree. As he did so a cool wind brushed over him and caused his body to involuntarily shiver. There was something in that breeze that unsettled him and it had nothing to do with the temperature. A dark feeling settled around him, not dissimilar to how he had felt as he followed Firefly's scent trial up to the north. A bit distractedly he continued his exercises, his blade cleaving through the air with an audible whoosh. Breathing deeply, he brought it over his head in a large arc and was about to bring it down when a distant scream hit his ears and shocked his stomach.

With startling speed Haven and sheathed the sword, strapped it to his back, and was off at a dead run. He knew that voice that had cried out in fear and it made the blood in his veins run ice cold. His heart pounded like a war drum in his chest and ears, his legs pumping, running faster than he thought he ever had before. Already the adrenaline was leaking into him, fueling his movement and urging him forward. Not a second could be spared. He had to be there now. Soon his nose caught her scent and that of some foreign male and he moved even faster. Then he saw the scene. Princess was down, trapped with the halfling beast on top of her, and his vision went red. Lips curled in a fearful snarl and a ferocious roar ripped from his chest. Haven barreled towards the pale stranger and leaped, arms outstretch to tackle him and get him off his love. He would make him pay for touching her.
