Cambria's coping mechanism had also been to do her best to forget what had happened to her. That's what she had strove hard to do with the accident after Amata was able to finally pull her from her severely depressed state. She avoided speaking of it, thinking of it, anything. Whenever it was brought up she drew into herself, creating a wall in an attempt to keep all the bad feelings a memories out. The wall never worked that well though, and eventually she would burst into tears, clawing for comfort from whoever was near. It was easier now, if the subject was touched upon, but she doubted even after so long that she could speak of it in depth without crumbling. The other traumatic experience she had endured in the city had been mostly erased the same day it had happened. Her encounter with Lolita had seen to that, the intensity of their interactions taking the prevalence in her mind. Even so, Cambi did not like going to the city on her own.

It seemed that the healing process had finally gotten on its way though, as far as her uncle and his children were concerned. Ehno's actions had been a soothing salve upon her wounded heart and she could see him now without anger in her eyes and pain her chest. It wasn't necessarily forgiveness on her part, but at the very least she was willing to live with it and move on. To no longer hold that transgression against him every time their paths met. A long road needed to be traveled before she could feel equanimity towards her cousins also, but she felt that she had finally started down that way. Speaking with Mati about it, someone she cared for so much and who shared her feelings, had very much helped. They were coming from similar places on this and that made a great difference. The other adults helped her, and didn't judge her, but they couldn't wholly understand what she was going through. Mati could.

There hadn't been a millisecond that the girl had been mad at her mother for keeping the truth from her. She understood completely why she had, and the reasons had all been borne of her love and need to protect her. If she had found out right when it had come to light, undoubtedly she would have spiraled back into the dark place it had taken her so long to crawl out of and she couldn't say with any confidence if she could have come back out again. It was not an easy thing to escape from. It was sticky like tar and sapped your strength and energy, leaving you to be enveloped in the pitch blackness with no hope. If she had been in her mother's place, she would have done the same thing. A small smile lighted her face as Mati spoke, thinking perhaps this was a good place to leave this topic. Now, she just wanted to enjoy her company. To be with her and forget the troubles of the world outside.

Her request hadn't been thought out. It had been a sudden and primal need. After something so frightening, the need to be close to those she cared for the most. Even with the shortness of their newly realized time together, Mati had quickly climbed the ladder in her heart. There was more than that though, but she kept those thoughts and urges locked away for now. Now wasn't the time. Cambi looked at her though, wondering if she would come into the bed with her, afraid if perhaps she had been too forward again. The older fey rose though, and ever so gently lifted the covers and lowered herself beside her on the bed. A great contentment washed through the slight wolf and she wished she weren't so sore, otherwise she would wrap her arms around Mati and hold herself tight and close. That wasn't possible now, but her hand once again found Mati's beneath the cover and held it, their fingers locking.

The loving fingers on her face made her smile, her eyes closing and relishing their touch. The words filled her with an intense warmth and she knew she was blushing. "You make me feel beautiful," she replied just as softly. Cambria craned her neck towards Mati, her muzzle rubbing against the other female's. Please don't ever let this go away, the girl prayed silently. She didn't want to ever be without this.
