Cambria had always dreamed to find someone to love her as much as her father loved her mother. In her childhood days she had dreamed of her prince, the one who would come and woo her and sweep her off her feet. It was only recently that that image had altered, changed from male to female. Almost right as it had, almost directly after the realization and understanding had come to her, she had seen Mati through new eyes and knew that her heart yearned to be connected to the elder fey. It was something she couldn't hide, couldn't deny. It was stronger than any fear or any bout of shyness she had ever experienced. Her attraction had emboldened her, allowing her to step outside her boundaries and voice her feelings to Mati. It was that had allowed her to hug her that same day. She had gotten a taste of those feelings not being reciprocated and it had hurt. It had made her feel like the world was less bright, and her future as well. The Marino hadn't known what to do, but thankfully the fate she feared hadn't been true. Mati did feel the same way and she had known their feelings could grow into something great if they let them.

When she had been laying in that barn, trapped, one of the fragmented thoughts that had run through her panicked mind had been if she died, she'd never be able to see Mati again. It had struck at her heart and brought tears to her eyes. She wanted to be able to see her beautiful face every day. To feel the way it felt to have her smaller hand wrapped inside of one of the Church fey's. To taste her lips and to smell her scent. Cambria craved all of that and didn't want it all ripped away as soon as she had come to have and appreciate those things. She was young, and inexperienced, but she knew how important those things were. They were just as precious as the air she breathed. She understood now how her parents felt, even if it were just a fraction of the grand love that linked Savina and Kansas. Their bond was a seedling, fresh and new, but it had potential, and more than anything Cambria wanted it to grow.

Being close to Mati, even if it wasn't as close as she wished they could be, was better than any painkiller. More soothing than any salve. The ache in her body wasn't gone, but what was beside her was so important and wonderful that it completely banished those things from her mind. She sighed contentedly as their muzzles touched, her tail wagging faintly beneath the covers. With that strong relief came drowsiness and she was feeling, with Mati here, she just might be able to get the restful sleep her body so sorely needed. The girl felt their noses touch and her lips reached out and connected with the other woman's, an electric surge running through her body. It momentarily fueled the heat that burned in her, but tiredness soon overwhelmed even that. She didn't break the kiss until her lungs burned for air, and then she took a deep breath and tucked her nose beneath Mati's chin. "Stay with me," she said, softer than a dove's coo. She didn't care if her mother came back to find them like this. She would understand, the girl knew she would. Cambria needed her here, with her, and she slowly drifted off to sleep with a smile on her face.
