The rumblings of a stomach not use to being empty were the only thing that kept Nayru moving forward. Although the grandmotherly wolf who led the way had kept her fed for majority of their journey, all of yesterday and the day before the child's requests had been met with only rebukes, her tone increasingly sharp with each one. "Such a greedy child. The more you feed a hunger, the more it will demand of you. Learn to live without." Nayru knew that this was not literal. One could not really live, not without food, but perhaps the older women meant something else. The child has said little during the last two days.

The energy was almost tangibly different when they entered the highly trafficked area. Not that the ground they went over was claimed, but the winds told of nearby packs and clans, and the lands in-between were perfumed with the scents of those that went between. "You'll learn the area child, Inferni to our north and Phoenix Valley to the south, but these won't be important for a while yet I guess. We're straight through. Dahlia de Mai." They kept on west, until the white lady began to drag behind, slower and slower until Nayru was practically walking alone. Pausing she turned back, her childish face filled with concern. "I can’t go there, but they'll take you in. I can promise it. Go on and stop when the scent gets too strong. It'd be rude to go in unescorted. Take care little one, you'll be fine I'd guess."

And it was so sudden that she was standing alone, without even having the chance to say good bye or thanks or express and uncertainties. It was better that the women had left so abruptly. Nayru had not felt uneasy or unhappy at the lady's presence, but she had felt unreal. It was how a dream had felt, but for the past week and a half she had been unable to wake up. Now that she was alone again reality slowly leaked through the hazy, dream barrier that kept Nayru in a fog. Once she felt her feet solidly on the ground and her mind clear she looked west and willed her weary body forward.

When the scent did become thick (Nayru had never fathomed that so many wolves could live so clustered) she happily gave into her weak, shaky legs, collapsing into the grass. The woman hadn’t told her if it would be rude to call attention to herself, and so she stayed quiet. At least initially, because subconsciously she whined softly to herself. The noise was comforting, because in the past it might have been her sisters whining rather than herself. Nayru didn't analyze her actions when she caught the puppyish whimpers escaping her, she only hushed herself and refused to think of her parents and siblings, warm and happy without her, somewhere.
