She had seen something horrible just now, but she was unable to replay the scene and discover what it had been. Babyduck was surely behind her and flapping with its feathers right now, even if she could hear it. Noir and Babyduck would go back home and play with Babyduck’s babies and they would be happy like they always were.

Her own heart thumped loudly in her ears and mingled with the wind rushing past as she ran faster than she had ever done in her short life. Life. Her life had barely begun. Summer was marching in and she would smell the flowers and pretend she was a butterfly like in her pink hued dreams. The girl’s fingers had already released their hold on Toefur when she had decided to take flight, but in her mind the toy too was with her. Everything was alright. The strange taste continued to linger and spread through her mouth. She had bitten her lip, but was not given the time to realize this before a blurred form rammed into her from the side and let her panicked, golden orbs see black and red flash. She could see stars! Noir Aston had always loved the small pin points of light stretching across the sky while sun slept.

She was unable to understand when she moments later opened her eyes and found that she was no longer on her legs. Something was pressing her against the pretty soft grass and the pressure applied caused a whimper of pain to escape her muzzle. She couldn’t see what it was; could only see a blur of earthen colours, brown in different hues reminding her of chocolate and cream. She loved both chocolate and cream, but there was nothing lovely in those colours today. Her side hurt fiercer than anything she had ever felt, and her body refused to listen when she willed it to get up. She breathed into the soft perfumes of earth and nature. Summer was coming and she would run through rainbow fields with her bird. Kinigisdi’s song sounded distant in her ears now; its tune different somehow. Sadder.
