He knew fake when he saw it. Hunger blazed within his eyes as he greedily glared into the face pointing to the sky. He held her trembling hands and he recognized the shadow looming over her for what it was. A madman’s laughter bubbled deep down in his chest, but he kept it there, felt it boil and fume with that delicious insanity purer and a thousand times better than the most wicked of drugs. Demons danced under her shivering eyelids and Haku waited, stripped for his usual patience. A small tremble of his own shook his spine thrillingly and his claws dug deeper into her mortal hands. His gaze held adoration that could only bloom when she confirmed Kaena’s lineage. There was no turning away from her now. He knew the shape and taste of obsession and he could feel his own blood boil furiously beneath the thin layers of fur and flesh.
When her words rose to offer him a look at his future, he found disappointment grasp his blackened heart instantly. These were not the words he sought. Those spoke of a different future – still his, but too distant to be relevant as of yet. He needed to know more; needed to know who would be the one. ”Nothing more?” the male breathed darkly, allowing his annoyance and poorly masked fury roll like thunder through the sound of his voice. This was simply not good enough. He wanted to shake her until her fragile body broke and leaked life. He knew there was a life before the dragon spread its wings to consume the vision and he needed to know the shape. Mortal blood was bound to fail, but his taint had offered merit. It was time consuming and risky to study the blood best suited until it was time, and this was why he needed this daughter.
